jomatty Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 how does this usually affect fishing and what techniques usually work well while it is raining. i was recently camping and we got dumped on and i really did not know how to respond. matt Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 15, 2006 Super User Posted June 15, 2006 The fish are already wet. I don't change anything. As long as there is no threat of lightning, I'm fishing. If you are looking for rain gear, I reccommend Cabela's Guidewear. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Same here. Grab the gore-tex out of the dry bag and keep fishing. Usually the rain helps to keep the pressure away. I love foul weather fishing. Quote
Bass Hammer Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 I love fishing in the rain. I approach it like it's a change in light conditions and keep on fishing. Quote
RobDar Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Well I wont go so far as to say i LOVE fishing in the rain....(Bass Hammer you a crazy dude!!! LOL) I usually have good luck in the rain... On a clear water lake I find rain helpful...less chance of spooking jumpy fish... I sometimes will change my color if the rain has mixed up the water and made it murky... If I am fishing points in stormy conditions...rain accompanied with winds and other nasties... I will usually drop back to the sheltered side on the point... other than that I usually just fish... the rain does not seem to change much. Quote
russ0101 Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 keep fishing! i'll use a floating rattle trap, and a weighted TR'd plastic... some of my best fish are caught when its raining because all the other boaters have gotten off the water Quote
Super User Marty Posted June 15, 2006 Super User Posted June 15, 2006 Within the last month, I fished two consecutive Fridays with heavy rain. One day wasn't so great, the other was quite good on buzzbaits and Jitterbugs. So as long as lightning is not a threat, keep at it. Quote
cnlevo Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 oh man....fishing in a nice summer shower is where it's at. I havn't been caught in a summer shower yet this summer (i live in jacksonville, fl and fish the st. johns river, lake george, rodman resevoir, little orange, and the oklawaha river)....even though it's still early. Last year I was caught about a dozen times and each time in little orange lake during a good rain i would catch the hell out of bass on an original f-13 silver/black rapala that's about 6 years old and it's missing 2 hooks on the treble hooks (caught over 100 fish on that lure). That's my go to lure in the rain. I don't know what it is, but they go crazy in that lake when it starts to rain....they get aggressive and hit hard. I don't even bother with rain apparel. It's always CRAZY hot so I just take off my shirt and keep on going. I always carry a big water proof duffle bag with me that i keep in dry storage in the boat.....it has 3 full size towels, 8 or so hand towels, rope, extra lighters and cigarettes (i know bad habit), and two changes of clothes just in case i need them. It's also good to have it water proof because i stick my wallet, camera, keys, cellphone, etc... in there while fishing. Quote
BassKing813 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Bassfishing in the rain is awesome. The fishing always picks up, especially right when it starts to drizzle. It doesn't matter what lure I am fishing when it starts because I will ALWAYS put on a topwater. My favorite is the topwater popper. This lure really shines when it starts raining. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted June 16, 2006 Super User Posted June 16, 2006 Fishing in light rain is usually good unless the wind is so hard casting is hard and the waves are crashing. Pelting rain puts fish down, and the calm after the storm is often the toughest fishing, especially when the sun comes out. Quote
splat_baseball51 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 i dont think it changes anything, but what works really well for me in the rain is a rat l trap Quote
