Daniel My Brother Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 The closest decent fishing lake is a 45 minute drive from my house. With 3 trips this past week, it's getting a little tough at the pump. I'm just curious how far is your average commute to fish? Am I insane, or is this normal? Quote
tipptruck1 Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 I go about 5 miles. But if i really want to go some place i just drive 10 miles. Its nice having a main river right at your door step. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Yea, I'm exactly 1 hr from driveway to floating. Fishing every day is costing me roughly $70/wk in fuel alone. Not bad compared to some though. It costs Hawg_Hunter $100 every time he goes. He drives 2 hrs in a suburban towing a boat. Ouch Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted June 13, 2006 Super User Posted June 13, 2006 The How Far? That would depend on ones own personal budget. When one starts to exceed that budget, I believe thats where the Bait Monkey takes over, he has been known to turn you upside down to get that last nickle from you at the pumps. Thats also when that voice inside starts to reason within. You'll make it to next payday. You'll win a check with the extra practice. This might be the last trip for a coupe of weeks. My income tax check should be here anytime. The wife gets paid next weekend. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted June 13, 2006 Super User Posted June 13, 2006 I drive 21 miles to get my boat from storage, and then 3 miles to the lake I fish most often. Our housing association won't allow us to park our boats in our driveway and my garage is full so I store the boat as close to the lake as I can. A small 22 acre lake is within approximately 20 miles of my home when I want to fish off the bank. A few small lakes are within 45 to 55 miles and then Truman Lake is 2 hours. Quote
northgabassfisher Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 I go about 5-10 mins to get to the lake. Quote
Zebco202 Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 It's about 5-10 minutes from my office and about 10-15 maybe from my house. Man, I feel bad for you guys who drive so far to fish. I guess I take for granted the lakes here in southeast Tennessee. Quote
Other. Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Lake Needwood: 2-3 miles Lake Frank: 4-5 miles Tridalphia resivour: 30 min drive Rocky gordge resivour: not sure. Potomac river: 30-45min drive monocacy river: 45-1hour drive Little seneca:25min drive Quote
Wildbillb Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Most of my fishing is from 5 min away up to 45 min away. The close trips dont bother none at the pump. When I go father I just take a buddy or two along. We split the gas and more than one guy throwing different baits helps us figure out what the fish want faster. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted June 13, 2006 Super User Posted June 13, 2006 My house sits about 350 yards from a private ramp on Lake Walk-In-Water. All the same, I frequently fish other lakes in central Florida, just to spice it up. For day-trips, I try to limit my one-way trailering time to about 2 hours. If it's going to be a one or two-week vacation, then I wouldn't hesitate to travel for days. Roger Quote
tallydude Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 There is a good canal I fish in when I'm bored about 35 feet from my front door. Otherwise, I can usually find a good place within a 10-15 minute drive. Quote
Guest ouachitabassangler Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 I can launch on Lake Hamilton within 15 minutes (3 miles) of leaving the house, Lake Cathryn within 30 minutes (7 miles), and Lake Ouachia within 40 minutes (15 miles). Jim Quote
Jerkbate Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 I can be at Grenada Reservoir (40,000 acres) in about 10 minutes from my house and 5 minutes from my work. My house is about 20 minutes from Enid Reservoir (28,000 acres) & about 40 minutes to Sardis Reservoir (34,000 acres). There are also seven lakes (20 to 50 acres) on the national forest that are all within 15 minutes of my house. As you can see a fishermen of any kind could not ask for a better place to live. I consider myself pretty fortunate. I feel bad for you guys who have to travel to fish. It would kill me if I had to drive an hour everytime I went out. Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 13, 2006 Super User Posted June 13, 2006 5 small lakes and numerous ponds 20-25 min away, it would be less if I didn 't have to deal with the city traffic, 45 min to my usual hangout, and 1 1/2-2 hours to the bigger lakes ( 5 of them ). Quote
BassKing813 Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 The furthest body of water from me is about an hour, but every once in a while I'll drive anywhere in Florida no matter how far. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 14, 2006 Super User Posted June 14, 2006 I can be on my main river in two hours. I rarely fish lakes that are more than a five hour drive, but I sometimes drive eight hours, one way. If it weren't for FL, TX and CA, all the best bass waters in the United Staes would be within these general parameters! Quote
mwhitworth25 Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 my house to lake louise- 5 mins number of bass ive caughr at lake louise- 0 next closest lake- no idea my house to hartwell/keowee/jocasse- roughly 2 hours Quote

pcorajr Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 well i only have 2 lakes that are worth fishing, canonsburg lake is 15 min away, and there is another lake called virgil run or something like that, that one is 25 min. away. but i have the mon river that is 3 min away, and some small streams that are about 5 min away. There is also a lot of ponds around but i have to find them first and ask permission to fish them. Quote
Captain Cali Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Castaic is a little more than 30 miles from my house. It usually takes me 30-40 minutes. With no traffic a one way trip is about 20 minutes. The closest body of water I can fish is about 8 miles from my house. Quote
J-Salvati Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I go a half mile to fish..;D...Its REALLY nice Quote
BD Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I go anywhere from 35 minutes to 1.5 hours away 3 times a week. I HAVE to fish though, it keeps me sane. Quote
VekolBass Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 When I lived in Tucson AZ it used to take me about 1 1/2 hour to get to any real fishing. 2-4 Hours to get to good fishing. Now that I live in Virginia, about 40 miles south of D.C. I'm in fishing heaven. The nearest lake is 20 min. from my front door. I can fish for any species, except trout, within an hour from my house--and any species except for truly cold water stuff like salmon or grayling within 2 hours from my house, to include salt water. Some day when they build a boat ramp at the new state park on the Potomac river about 5 minutes from my house it will be even better. Quote
Tucson Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Man, you guys are breaking my heart! From Tucson the closest real lake is 3-1/2 hours. I just got back from there this morning. Last month I drove 4000 miles to central Florida towing a boat and packing a cat for a month of fishing. Next year it'll be five weeks. Love AZ but gonna have to move to Tennessee or Arkansas or Missouri or someplace. Hey Vekol - just read your response. Are you talking about Roosevelt? Quote
langs15 Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 in my backyard..so about 1 minute or less, or across my street about 1minute or less but having to get the boat to the other lake would take about 5 minutes and i'd be in the water. I defenitly take my lakes around e for granted. Monksville dam for gas boats- like 20-30 minutes from me I supose.. Quote
