What is the Bait Monkey?

I'm a newbie and keeping seeing posts with the name Bait Monkey in them. What in the world does it mean?

The bait monkey got me good today.

I went into BPS here in Springfield to renew my $12 fishing license, and came out with over three hundred bucks worth of gear.  

But, most of that was in a sweeeeet new St. Croix Avid casting rod, that I think will be perfect for c-rigging. (7' MHF) Paired it with a Quantum KVD signature reel, which seemed to me to be a heckuva nice reel for 89 bucks.

Is that really want the bait monkey is?  I thought it was that little guy standin on my shoulder tossin baits in the basket at the bait shop when i wasnt lookin.  Then I get home and wonder where all this stuff came from.

Raul is the creator of this demon.  So everytime I buy new fishing tackle I blame Raul.  Thats why Raul is one of my good buddies even though I blame him for a lot of useless tackle aquisitions.

the bait monkey has gotten me a couple of times too, sometimes its good, but mostly i feel bad that i spent all that money, but all in all, go away!!

Most times the bait monkey is small and somewhat manageable, but be warned-there are times when he goes from monkey to 500 pound gorilla.  In a heartbeat.

Once again, I'm proud to be the oddball here.

I use one lure.... The Hud.... and I have 6 or 8 of them laying around in various states of destruction. Probably won't need any more this year.

Oh.... I use the Bastrix Bluegill in the Spring.... but bed fishing was so crappy this year, that I still have plenty for the next.

I'm sponsered by a line and a reel company (I don't think I'm allowed to advertise them, right ?) so that's covered.

Anyway, I think I bought $30 or $40 worth of hooks in Febuary.....

Oh, and $30 on some Crappie jigs way back then too.

But bitten by a bait monkey ? Certainly not me :-)

I spend plenty money on gas to get me there.

The bait monkey is what made me blow this weeks paycheck on fishing gear. I came home with a couple of sacks of gear and realized I had bought mostly stuff that I already had and no matter how much I thought I badly needed extras while standing in the fishing section of walmart, I really didn't need them. The only useful thing I did get was a can of mosquito dope.

Now I know why they staple your receipts to your sack when you check out at the sporting goods section. But I can't take the stuff back because I'll only wind up exchanging it for more stuff that I don't need. :-/

My personal BaitMonkey is my little guy standing beside me going "daddy I need" this, that and anything plastic, shiny or flourescent. I swear my son has 10 times the amount of tackle that I do. At least he is not reading Cabelas or BPS catalogs on the throne yet.

I dunno whose "monkey" this is...but they need to put him BACK IN HIS CAGE!  That little monster cost the wife and I $350 on a little (ok...all day) excursion up to the Bass Pro Shops in Baltimore.  

The upside (I suppose) is that the wife is really enjoying fishing and wanted a tackle box and some things of her own!  <insert the sound of the Bait Monkey snickering>  The downside is that she wanted one of everything in the store, lol!

to me the bait monkey is the urge to buy things that aren't "needed" for fishing but things that you really don't need at all but just "have to have" because this new crankbait will get  the fish that your 1st 396 cranks won't.

Ain't it wonderful!  My "little guy" got married last month so I will probably stop buying lures in quantities of two now.  Only at Christmas and his birthday.
