Darrickp Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Here's a question for ya... How do you guys get that fish smell off your hands? A good day of fishing turns your hands into a fish them selves. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted June 7, 2006 Super User Posted June 7, 2006 Dawn Direct Foam Dishwashing detergent will remove the smell. It can be hard on the hands. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 squeeze a lemon seriously. Lemon juice Quote
basspro05 Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 My grandpa always made me wash my hands with toothpaste and then wash them with a dishwasher detergent, always worked for me Quote

Guest the_muddy_man Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 That lemon thing works learned it when I lived in New Orleans only thing that kept my drumsticks from smellin like crawfish Quote
FL_fisher Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 comet or ajax works really good it will even get the smell from shinners off. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 7, 2006 Super User Posted June 7, 2006 First wash you hands THROUGHLY, TWICE with a regular bar of soap and warm water. Then squeeze a lemon or rinse your hands in a small amout of vinegar, then rinse again with water. I like to then apply hand lotion or if it's been a particularly rough outing, I'll substitute Neosporin for the lotion. This does wonders for your hands. Quote
Cajun1977 Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 i like the fish smell it keeps the ol lady away for a while also lol ;D Quote
Ben Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I just use the same GOJO with Pumis is use to clean the grease off my hands. Never have tried the Lemon juice. I used to use tomato juice to get skunk oil off (which is about the only thing that will get it off) so maybe that will get the fish smell also. Oh, back in my younger days and I mean a lot younger, I used to descent skunks and sold them for pets. See I didn't wait till I was 58 to turn crazy, I've been that way all my life. Quote
Other. Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I love smelling like a fish. After a nice 8 hour long fishing trip at sea you smell wonderfull. I wouldent mind putting of fish smelling deoderant. I had a couple of sharks naw on my leg (small ones)after going on 8 hour long fishing trips in saltwater. Quote
Poor Richard Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Mostly good suggestions above. My routine: 1. Dawn dish liquid, rinse thoroughly. 2. Vinegar or the lemon. Yes, either will expose your nicks and cuts and be very good for them. Rinse thoroughly. 3. tablespoon of baking soda, dampen, scrub hands with it. Steps 1 and 3 should include the fingernails, with a brush. 4. Wash with any hand soap, again using fingernail brush. If still stinking, use Comet. Then it does pay to rub in your favorite hand conditioner. If you filet fish over a kitchen sink with a disposer, there are two ways to avoid being murdered by the rest of the family: 1. Grind up citrus peelings or even a whole lemon or orange. Do not run the water (you will be grinding only a few seconds and won't overheat), and leave the pulp down in the grinder as long as possible. 2. Load the receptacle with ice upon which you have shaken a LOT of Comet. Again, do not use running water, grinding for only a few seconds and leaving the Comet sticking to the spin basket down there. : ---------------------- "Beware the Ur-Bass." - R.B. Quote

russ0101 Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 i was with a bar of LAVA Soap... no need for anything other than that for me - there is no smell left when i use it... it also works for those "morning fish" ;D Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 One day, tuna fishing, I was resting my eyes, laying on the bow. Pilot whales had been surfacing all morning, nothing new. Then one surfaced very near the boat and cleared it's blow hole. I got me a nice "oil shower". there's no bottle of lemon juice big enough! Took a few days to have friends again. Quote
DDbasser Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Try one of the new waterless hand sanitizers they work real well. Although I too like the smell of fish, the wife doesn't and I like being able to sleep in my own bed at night!!!! LOL ;D Quote
