Spinnerbaits

I have been using War Eagle, Terminator, and Booyah's for about three years now. All of them work well for me with small tweaks, ie

larger blades, and maybe upragrading the swivels if they seem subpar to me. My question is, is am I missing out on something here?

If I go to a tackle shop and cruise the isles, there are at leat ten different brands. My tackle ADD comes out and I decide to stick with the ones I'm familiar with. What are some of the spinnerbaits that you guys prefer?

I use what I like the looks of.  But my real go to spinners are the Northland Tackle spinners.

I haven't seen any in the Clevleand area. All I see are the jigs and slurpies.

I like Stanley spinnerbaits a lot. All the brands you are using are great,especially if you are tweaking them. Pick 3 or 4 of your favorite color patterns and then make a few blade combinations in each color and weight size and stick with it.

You have two choices.

The first is "off the shelf" models from the major manufacturers.

The second is to find small companies or individuals who produce their own spinnerbaits using higher quality materials.

Smaller tackle shops have specialty spinnerbaits so check them out in your area and your travels. Speak with the guys working at these stores as they are a fountain of information on private brands.

If possible, attend a fishing show and you may find individuals selling their own brands or local pros who use specific unknown brands as their secret baits. Just be nice and speak with the vendors and pros. As you know, they love to share their information with us.

You can also go on the net and seek out specialty spinnerbaits from individuals and small companies.

You will have a good time speaking with various individuals about different private brands and you will expand your bass fishing network at the same time.

In my opinion, if you are using War Eagle, Terminator, and Booya spinnerbaits, you're using three pretty good brands. There is one brand that is worth trying. Rattle Head Baits makes a spinnerbait that rattles. I used them last season, and had good results. They used to be sponsors here, but I don't see their name in the sponsor section any more.

Have always liked Stanley. Terminator are great. Like the new Strike King with perfect skirt and Booyah with the same and leverage hook.

Surprisingly, BPS house brand are pretty good.

I fish the Stanley most of the time . One thing I do before fishing them is to downsize the blades.

I don't like the size that most manufacturers put on them. They are generally too large for my preference and are designed to look good in the package. Many times when I am fishing in the upper water column you need to have a fast moving lure that keeps the fish from seeing it for what it really is, a fake. With the larger blades it causes the lure to rise on a fast crank.

The size of the bait will determine the size of my blades. Also, the smaller blades keep the lure from rising when I fish it deeper. In the clearer water I can crank it faster and I hope that gives the fish less of a chance to get a good look at the lure.

Of course there are times(Muddy water) that I do not change them. I want the blades to push more water and this allows me to slow down the lure to allow the fish to locate it.

I would prefer to fish two other brands(The Mr. Blitz, and the NO-NO) but I just cannot find them anymore. I liked the head design and wire configuration on them a lot better. If anyone would like to reccommend any in this area that are available I am open to suggestions.

Like the others are stating--you're using good brands.  Lucky Craft put out a new spinnerbait, but you'll pay LC prices!  I don't put too much credence in the head finish as far as well it will catch fish, but they look real nice.

I make my own.  This way you can have all the components (head color, blades, swivels, spacers, skirts) and combinations you want.  Spinnerbaits are very easy to make too.  Be forewarned---tacklemaking is as addictive as fishing!!

What brand would you guys say has the best natural looking skirt patterns? I dont think the fish are getting bored with the white and chart colors but I kind of am ;D

HMMM tough call.I am partial to war eagle skirts but I like Stanley the best. Check out fishstanley.com and you will see what I mean.The skirts are fantastic with number 811 being my favorite.(they call it crappie and in the sw swim jigs they call it mullet)

Scratch that I just went to fishstanley.com and I don't even see the icon series or any of the colores that those came in or a list of replacement skirts??!!  I do know where to buy just the skirts but it is quite illegal to mention the site around here :

Don't overlook the oldies. I don't fish spinnerbaits much but my teenage son wears me out occasionally with the Mann's Classic ( Hank Parker model ). He uses the double gold Indiana blades and chartreuse and white skirt.  Hank Parker made a career off that bait. My local Wal-Mart has them on clearence right now for $2 each. The supply at zip 37854 has been seriously dented though.

Picasso makes a great spinnerbait but I also like Strike King's Premire Plus and the KVD series spinnerbaits as well (the bluegill is a killing color). I'll throw out a call to Bass Pro's Lazer Eye series as well.

I agree with Maltese 100%. War Eagle, Terminator, and Booyah are all great spinnerbaits. I don't see a reason to change.

You might want to add a couple of Strike King spinnerbaits to your arsenal.  You are already using some nice brands and these are easy to come by.  They have good skirt action too.

I prefer Stanley Wedge spinner baits for most applications since it's all about vibration and water displacement. By transferring 2/3 of the weight to the rear 1/3 of the bait, Lonnie was able to give these spinner baits a unique action that's proven deadly where traditional spinner baits have failed.  

Hildebrandt spinner baits are overlooked yet highly productive spinner bait, their blades are 24 karat gold offering outstanding flash. Hildebrandt's short arm Go-Getter will helicopter down like no other and is an excellent choice for slow rolling or pitching into brush.

The revenge  have the sharpest hooks I have ever felt on a spinnerbait.

There are a ton of great spinnerbaits out there and you have mentioned some great brands.  You can keep it simple with spinnerbaits or get very serious.

I do not throw them a ton, so I only have a few in double willow, tandem colorado/willow and single colorado in sizes from 1/4 to 1 oz.  My basic desire is to have a bait that will stay at the depth I want, at the speed I want and that runs true without rolling.  I normally can find the bait I need in my small selection.

I know other guys who throw spinnerbaits all the time and are constantly changing blades, etc. to get the perfect balance, speed, depth, etc. for the situation they are fishing.  

Just like most baits, you can do a lot with spinnerbaits.
