abelfisher Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 I have tried to find topo maps of lakes where I fish that show not only the topograghy of the land around the lake, but also the topography below water level. I have had no success. Does anyone know how I could find these; preferably on line and free. However, I guess I would be wiling to pay for a good map. I've tried Terra server, and a few others but they all show the land contours above water. :-/ :-/ Also, if anyone know any, could you please provide some links? Thanks again! Quote
jeronimo Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 i have also been looking for something like that for a while. i hope someone has a link for this! Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted May 22, 2006 Super User Posted May 22, 2006 What type of lakes are they? Are the natural lakes or empoundments? Were they made or maintained by the Army Corps of Engeneers, State or County Governments, or a power company? How old are they? Quote
abelfisher Posted May 22, 2006 Author Posted May 22, 2006 One lake is an empoundment, dammed up in the 30's as a debris dam for the gold mines up river. it is part tof the north fork of the american rive being dammed up. High canyon walls and built and maintained by the Army Corp of Engineers. Another lake is just like this one only about 5-8 times larger. Water is released form both of these all year long. Another is a privately maintained lake also dammed up. I would also say it was dammed up in the 30's? Thanks for asking, Fluke! Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted May 22, 2006 Super User Posted May 22, 2006 All Corp lakes have topo maps and sometimes detailed pictures of the lake just before filling. You can check the local librairy or courthouse or you can call and ask the the ACE if they have access to them. My lake is a ACE lake and was built in the 40's and has a 100+page detailed book on what it looked like before filling. I think with a little digging you should find what you are looking for. Quote
Guest ouachitabassangler Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 With no lake names I couldn't begin searching. http//www.usgs.gov provides free topo maps. Explore that and you'll find the map library. If you find your map you can order a printed copy for a small fee. Also, plug your lake names into http//www.google.com along with the words "contour map" or "bathymetric", "topo", "topographic". Don't include my parentheses. Try searching for this example, replacing lake name with yours. Degray Lake contour Degray lake map Degray bathymetry Degray topo map etc Jim Quote
Guest ouachitabassangler Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 That's a good link but they are not free. Many of those maps are based on the free maps. Jim Quote
