Darrickp Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Hello all I am an old fisherman with a new found excitement to fish. I started fishing when I was 8 of course that's when you just throw the line in and hope you get something. Yesterday, I was fishing behind my house in a nice sized pond/lake. I noticed that there were allot of Bass spawning but they wanted nothing to do with my lure a jointed Rapala brown in color. I had NO luck. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really don't like or really no how to fish with plastic worms. I have always fished with lures and shiners. ANY HELP PLEASE Quote
wcasey911 Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Plastic worms are the trick. I had the same problem at a pond I fished recently. I used a salt impregnated worm just rigged wacky style. I suppose any brand will do. I was casting just past them and pulling back across or just to the side of their beds. They were hitting it pretty good that way. You'll be hard pressed to get them far off the bed. Good luck with it. Quote
alhuff Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 if you want to use live bait i would get a half dozen large, and i mean large minners and fish them weightless by dropping them in the bed of the bass till they hit it... if not then what BassAssassin said... Alfred Quote

Rattlinrogue Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Welcome Darrickp,You need to use plastics(I love those floating Rapalas too!).Worms,lizards,tubes,senkos,etc. As far as "how to" ,look in the articles section and you're sure to find a multitude of articles that will teach you how.I've been bassin' for 32 years, but I've added a lot of new ways to catch a bass from reading the articles and asking questions on the forum.Again welcome! Whopper-Stopper Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 The bass are doing the same thing in a small pond that I fish. I spent a week or so using plastic worms, lizards, etc. Then, I was at walmart and heard the sporting goods section calling; so I went to the fishing stuff and saw a pack of Storm Fire Tiger Swim shad. I went to the pond and caught 3 times as what I had been catching. Just use a steady retrieve or start and stop. Figure out what works. Quote
