Me and my fishing partner got in a discussion about which is a better fish catcher, the carolina rig or the Texas.  I know there are covers that won't allow you to drag a carolina rig.  As well the carolina rig is great for covering large lake points.  But as far as the fish goes, do you feel one presentation is better than the other.  I prefer the texas rig simply because I have always used it.  My partner swears I should use the carolina tomorrow in our tournament.  What do you think?

I think another perspective is needed.  Both techniques should be considered bait delivery systems and they both work great in a given situation.  So both of you are right.

Well I think it would depend on what you are fishing, structure, cover etc. would determine the success of the carolina rig. What are you fishing in the tournament?

I really like c-rigging with all other structure and cover being equal.  Main reason I like carolina is that you can cover lots of water and I feel that the carolina rig gives the plastic a more real effect being that its free floating behind the weight.  With T-rig you kind of have to fish it slow from my experience atleast if you fish it fast with the weight being so close it restricts the bait and I've never had much experience with it fishing t-rig fast.

Example of this was when I fished in a tourney few weeks back I was throwing a c-rig into grass and dragging it really slow on the bottom.  At first I wasn't getting any bites, but then on one cast I could feel my weight being hung up.  When I loosened it from the grass instead of letting it hit the bottom right away I dragged the weight through the water probably a foot off the bottom, then I got my first bite.  So rest of the tourney I would throw the bait and work that carolina rig real fast so the weight would barely touch the bottom and I had great success.

Carolina vs Texas...hmmm.Carolina in basketball,Texas in football,C-rig for covering all types of structure, and T-rig for more precise presentations to specific cover.(at least for me)

Well said.

If I had to use only one, on most lakes and in most situations, it would be a C-rig. I would use a jig or weightless plastic in close cover. Just my .02

Don't mess with Texas. I like the T-rig because I can peg the bullet weight in front of the worm and fish it like a c-rig when conditions dictate. Fish them both slow and deliberate. JMHO

Two different rigs, each work well in their element but neither work well 100% of the time.  Just like trying to use a standard T-rig, even that doesn't work in some situtions and you have to peg the weight.   It's all just different methods of catching fish under different conditions.  I throw a T-rig about 80% of the time but there are conditions where you can't beat a C-Rig.  Steep banks it one area a C-Rig can really catch a lot more fish than a T-Rig.
