Surface of water looks different?

We were fishing at gibbons creek last week and we came across a section of the water where it was real glassy (calm). This calm water was surrounded by choppy water.  My question is wether this is a:

-depth change

-creek channel with an underwater current

-temperature difference

Have any of you ever seen this before??

was it windy that day, if so then the smooth water was blocked by a hill or some trees or some thing to were the wind could not get to it. if it wasnt wind then its probley under water current.

no it was not windy, maybe 5mph... this was out in the dead middle of the lake...nothing was around, that is why i was confused

I see this on lakes all the time it is just the wind blowing in spots you will only see it on a calm day because other wise the wind would be all over. Im not sure how good I worded this but i just woke up.

Sail boaters know what those are about here and highly respect those places. Here they are shallow humps with vegetation near the surface which acts as a wave filter. The water inside is perfectly calm with water outside churning. Be sure to investigate those next time, as they are really good hot spots here beginning next month until winter. I fish the insides then work on the outside weedline.
