Does anyone know or have any information on how much Silica Gel it takes to keep all the moister out of one area?  For example, how much Silica Gel would it take to keep the rust off hooks in a flat sided Plano box?

Thanks,

I would think a small bag or two that you find in electronig component boxes or shoes, etc.  By the way, where can you buy those?  Does Wally's World sell 'em?

ACE hardware stores used to carry silica gel sachets or by jar.

Ya know, that's a good question.

I found this place at Ebay that sells all kinds of Dessicant kits with different sizes of Gel packs in them. A kit is supposed to come with a chart to help you determine just how much you need. I can tell you I did a google search and the charts I found I'd need a chemist to decipher them.

Here's the link

if you eat beef jerky, they come with them too. Just throw em in your tackle box when u finish a bag!

I heard about silica gel packs preventing rust a few years back.  Everytime I, or someone in my family purchased a pair of shoes or pants etc that had a gel pack in it, I would keep it and put it in my tackle.  I have an Okeechobee Fats tackle back with 8 3700 series cases.  I have 2 to 3 gel packs in each case and 6 in my case that contains all my hooks and weights (I figured they would be more susceptible to rusting than my other lures).  So far it's worked for me!  Good luck.

I went to a local shoe store and asked if they would save some for me. I was suprised when they handed me 30 or so that were just lying around the stockroom. I have 2 in each box, they definately do the trick.
