JohnMac Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I'm looking for lipless crankbaits i own many xcalibur lipless cranks along with rattle L traps i have three spots open in my tackle box for three lipless cranks and was wondering if anyone has used anything amazing lately that they want to share with me before i make my purchase Quote
JohnMac Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 ive been looking at the lucky craft lipless if anyone has used them what size in medium shallow depth Quote
Super User Micro Posted January 22, 2009 Super User Posted January 22, 2009 Yo-Zuri Hardcore Drum is an excellent lipless. It is very nicely finished, as well as any high end Japanese bait. It has excellent hooks. It has a very good action even as slow speed. Lifting it up through the water with just your rod and it flutters. And if it sinks to the bottom, it nose-stands. It's an excellent lipless IMO. I've heard good things about the Jackall TN/70 as well but I don't have any of these. Quote
Stringjam Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Micro has me hankerin' (did I really just say that?) for one of those Hardcores - sounds right up my alley. Scrap the Lucky Craft idea and get a Jackall TN/70. Also, no lipless collection is complete without a Cordell Spot. Quote
Super User Micro Posted January 22, 2009 Super User Posted January 22, 2009 String, I haven't tried the Jackall (yet) so that may be a better bait than the Yo-Zuri. But the Yo-Zuri is the best I have tried. Quote
SkilletSizeBass. Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I've got a couple of the lucky craft lipless and one Yo-zuri, Ihaven't done much good on them, but maybe haven't gave them an honest effort yet. The lipless I've done the best on is a Rattlin Rapala, I think the color is firecraw, red/w yellow belly. Quote
Bad to da Bass Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I really like the Rattlin Rapala's Quote
Super User CWB Posted January 22, 2009 Super User Posted January 22, 2009 Strike King Redeye Shad is the best I have thrown. Pause it and it flutters down upright- not nosediving or on it's side. I don't know of another rattle bait that does this. I also like the old standby Cordell Super Spot. Quote
Stingray23 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I really like the Rattlin Rapala's Me too. along with the Strike King Red eye. Just ordered about a dozen or so lipless cranks last night for TW. They are one of my favorite baits along with spinnerbaits Quote
Derek84 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 At the bass expo in Richmond Va I got to see the Strike King red eye lipless crank demonstrated in the big bass tank. I was impressed at how it would flutter straight down on slack line. No nose dive or laying on it's side, just a nice little shimmy. Quote
NOVA Angler Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I own a Lucky Craft lipless in American Shad and while it is beautiful, it doesn't have the action to justify the price tag. Save your money and buy three Red Eye Shads for the price of the LC. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 22, 2009 Super User Posted January 22, 2009 Yo-Zuri Rattl'n Vibe Quote
Pitchinkid Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 The Strike King red eyes are probably my favorite now. I have always been loyal to bill lewis, but they do not have the action of a Strike King when it falls. If i was straight ripping through grass or burning them i dont think it would matter on any lipless crank. But if you are Yo-Yoing i think the Strike King wins hands down Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted January 22, 2009 Super User Posted January 22, 2009 My most productive lipless crankbaits have been: 1- XCaliburXr50 in Royal Shad, or Blue Chrome/Orange. 2- Strike King Red Eye Shad in Sexy Shad, or East Texas Special. 3- Rattlin Rapala in Silver/Blue, or Red Crawdad. zbass Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Yo-Zuri Rattl'n Vibe X2. Gold/blk red hooks Quote
BUCKEYEone Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 My most productive lipless crankbaits have been:XCaliburXr50 in Blue Chrome/Orange. This is a "Must Have" X3...love the xr50, xr75, and just mistakenly ordered an xrk100 from BPS...oops. We'll see how it looks when it comes in the mail today! 8-) Quote
Primus Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 It's definetely a good idea to have some options to choose from, some of my favorites would include the Jackall, Red Eye Shad & Yozuri. I would also suggest the Sebile Flatt Shad, available in transluscent colors and doesn't rattle which could be a plus on sunny days when fishing clear water. Quote
Super User Micro Posted January 23, 2009 Super User Posted January 23, 2009 As RW said, the Yo-Zuri Rattln Vibe is excellent. But it's definitely for burning and straight up-and-down jigging. It does not nose-stand on the bottom. Once it hits bottom, it promplty flops over on this side. It is the least bouyant lipless I've tried. But it looks good, had a nice action on a medium or fast retrieve, and can be ripped through weeds without picking up much. It's real draw for me is that if you let it dangle in the water, it stays horizontal. This makes it good for jigging up and down. I've caught a few fish on it doing this. On a slow retrieve, or for bed fishing, the Yo-Zuri Hardcore Drum is superior. I also fish the XCalibur Xr75. It's like a bigger Rattln Vibe. It's great for burning and pretty good in the weeds. But as Stringjam said in a previous post, it does lay on its side on the bottom. It's not quite as bad as the Rattln Vibe in that respect, but it's no good for fishing beds, unless you are burning over them. The Lucky Craft LVR is a decent lipless. It needs a mod to fast retrieve. But it is as weedless as they come. I like fishing these in grass. It's pretty easy to get them through grass. And whatever its action, it's got a great profile and has produced fish for me. As far as a lipless than acts good on the bottom, the Rapala Clackn' Rap, the new one I posted on a few months ago, will probably shape up to be a good bait. That bait stands ***-up in water. Even more than the Yo-Zuri Hardcore Drum. And being a big bait, it sort of rocks at rest on its nose. I haven't fished it enough to make a good call on its action (it did seem a little lackluster), but there is no denying that thing rest butt-up. Its tail sticks up to 1:30 when at rest. Quote
bhorlings Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Has anyone tried the River2Sea Tungsten Vibe? I'm looking at those right now too... http://www.***.com/descpageCRNKR2S-R2STV.html Quote
fathom Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Strike King Redeye Shad is the best I have thrown. Pause it and it flutters down upright- not nosediving or on it's side. I don't know of another rattle bait that does this. I also like the old standby Cordell Super Spot. x2. that flutter is what makes this bait an incredible producer. so much, i moved it up in rotation above the old trusty chrome/blue rattletrap. have also done extremely well with the lc's in ghost minnow. NOVA Angler Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 My most productive lipless crankbaits have been:XCaliburXr50 in Blue Chrome/Orange. This is a "Must Have" 8-) I picked one up on the way home from work yesterday. I don't want to be without any "must haves". I'll compare it to the Red Eye this spring. Quote
Primus Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 bhorlings I bought couple of the River to Sea Tungsten Vibes last fall but haven't go them wet yet, should know next spring. For all the Xcalibur fans they are now offering their lipless in a 3/4 oz & 1 oz size in both a 1 knocker & a rattling version. I bought a few last night to try for next season. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 23, 2009 Super User Posted January 23, 2009 Well if you have 3 spots open try 3 differnt baits and see what one's you like best. I like Strike King Redeye Shads the best, but plan on trying the new Rapala clacking rap, and the Spro Aruku shad this year to see if I like them too. Quote
Danny1991 Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Strike King red eye shad, my favorite lipless Ive used by far! Quote
