Any good bass fishing magazines?

I started bass fishing a few years ago and was wondering if there were any good magazines out for bass fishing?  Like with tips on using different baits. Any opinions are welcome.

Nope, none at all . I used to get Bassmaster, but since the internet I can't keep up with all the info. Everything is right on this site.

If you had to peg me to 2 magazines I would pick Gary Yamamoto's Inside line www.insideline.net and Bass West  www.basswest.com.  These 2 are the best for fishing information in my opinion and the articles are in detail and original.

I cancelled subscriptions to In-Fisherman (not enough on bass) and Bassmaster (more tournament oriented which I'm not).  Agree w/ Triton Mike above on Inside Line and I actually like Bassin'.  Incidentally, all above have good back issues articles available on their websites.  Good luck and reading.

I think Bassin' is probably the best print magazine out there as far as "how to" articles.Bassmaster mag does go overboard with the tournament scene,but you'll still find 2 or 3 good info articles in it.

I like In-Fisherman because I am not a bass only fisherman. I will not renew my subscription to Bassmaster as it is as said above too tournament oriented for me but the do have some good articles.

Triton_Mike, I tried to check out the Bass West site but they sure don't offer much too see to help me decide if I want to subscribe. I have never heard of Bass West before your post and I am interested but could you share a little bit more information on it? I sure would appreciate it. I just joined Gary Yamamoto's Inside line so I'm good there. Anyone else take Bass West?

i used to subscribe to bass west when i lived in cali.   do any of you find it helpful on lakes that are not clear and deep?

I  prefer Bassmaster , even though there is a lot of tournament coverage you can use a large portion of the information.

I think Basswest blows the other mags away. lots of good articles with realy good tips and the pictures are just better than any other fishing magazine I have seen.

Bassmasters for me

For the most pointed and useful information, I generally start with a publication

from my home state. For example, when I lived in Georgia I subscribed to "Georgia Sportsman",

and now that I'm in Florida I'm getting "Florida Game & Fish". Local publications are the most likely

to cover the 'where', 'when' and 'how' on the same lakes you fish.

With regard to national publications, I've personally learned the most

from "In Fisherman", a highly scientific magazine that goes beyond black bass.

Bassin' and Fishing Facts are other excellent magazines.

I get In-Fisherman, Inside Line, and Bassin'. Dropped Bassmaster, for the same reasons listed here. In-Fisherman is still, IMO, the best fishing publication.

Bassmaster is the best one that I've come across.  I don't care for Bassin'.  In-Fisherman covers too many other species for me.  Got the first issue of *** mag, that was totaly geared toward covering the tours and didn't contain any actual fishing info.  I haven't read some of the others that have been mentioned in previous posts.

blanked,  You do have a point.  The reason I like the Bass West magazine is because it covers alot of western techniques that aren't very popular here in the SE/NE US of A.  Most of your tactics (not all) start in California and work their way slowly eastward.  Things like Swimbaits, dropshot, split shot etc etc.  You can pretty much take what they are doing out west and apply it to any lake USA.  Not all california lakes are deep and clear but most of them are.  I'm partial to the Inside Line because I write for them but I do like the Inside LIne because it's more across the board on where the articles come from ie SE, NE, West, Mid West etc etc.  I do enjoy both magazines very much and I enjoy reading articles by personal friends ie Terry Battisti, Gary Dobyns, Jarrett Edwards, Mike Whitten, Andy Cuccia, Pete Robbins, Dean Sault etc etc.

Thanks for all the replies. I signed up for a trial of Bassin (3 months I think) and I'm looking into Inside Line.  Inside is Line is only $15 for a year, so I might just give it a try too.

I think Bassin is the best.  Bassmaster is fine.  Inside line covers alot of basic stuff, but I will continue my subscription.  I know that alot of the techniques in BassWest will find their way to Florida, but I just can't get into reading about cold water that goes over 75' deep and is so clear you can read the date off of a dime.  My home lake in florida is maybe 14' at it's deepest hole (in the rainy season), has about 4' visibility (at it's clearest) and has weeds everywhere with virtually no bottom strucuture.  Not exactly what you Cali guys are familiar with.  I also get Bass times.  It covers alot of conservation items that some may find boring, but it has techniques and news that I don't find anywhere else.

Bull Shoals Lake is a clear-cold water mountain lake that reaches depths of over 250 feet. With clarity, depth and water temperature, it is very unique and apart from other lakes in the Midwest and South. Visibility is excellent and is typically 20 to 40 feet . That West Coast stuff just might work here.

I like to see what you guys have to say about all of these mags. but I'm primaraly a smallie fisherman.  Is there any good mags for smallies except in-fisherman.

Inside Line is my favorite magazine and it usually has an article on smallmouth, but this month Mike Whitten has a great piece featuring one of the Tennessee River's top smallmouth guides. I think In-Fisherman is the best all around fishing magazine if you simply overlook some of the marketing focus. And finally Bassmasters, always good for an article or two and ocaasionally something absolutely astounding: David Hayes and the World Record Smallmouth investigative report forced IGFA to review their position and eventually reinstate the true WR.

So, those are my favorites.
