basscat73 Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I thought I'd post an idea to see what other people think about it. When I'm reading people's posts about fishing, I always want to know what state they're from to get an idea of what part of the country they are fishing in usually. It would be cool to have the state where people are from listed underneath the avatar area somehwere. I'm not sure if it's possible for bassresource to add this to the website or if anyone else would even care about see people's locations, but I figured I'd put it on the table anyhow to see what people think! P.S. I know I can go to a person's profile and look it up, but it would still be cool to see it next to each post too. Quote
JTL Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I agree, I live in Southern Ohio. Our fishing season, quality of fish, quantity of fish doesn't even compare to people in the south and the west. A fishing technique or method that works in one area of the country might not work in my neck of the woods. Location is a big key to someones fishing success... Quote
tennsopher Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I live here in Orlando, been a bass addict my whole life.Im from Tennessee(great fishing there),but when I had the opportunity to move to central Florida in 1983 ,I jumped on it.I have never looked back. Quote

That's why I put my location as part of my signature, but that doesn't work if most don't do it. While I know nothing about running web sites, I do know that a number of forums do show location in each message if the person has agreed to make it public. Quote
paparock Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Well for some of us it's a little complicated to fit all our experiences into one state. I was born and raised in southern Arkansas where I fished the Ouachita River, Lake Chicot, and my grandfather's ponds until my junior year in college. I was fortunate in being able to fish the lakes of central Wyoming and the Middle Fork of the Powder River up in the mountains for ten years. The gulf coast of Mexico out from and near Galveston, Texas allowed me to fish saltwater from ankle deep to 100 fathoms deep for almost fifteen years. Only once did I get to go to Cabo on BCS (Baja California Sur) but I will never forget the crystal clear blue ocean there or the fishing. Now I have come full circle back to my native state from which I will not stray again. So, posting where we are now is fine by me. But don't think by saying only that; it will stop me from learning everything I can from you. Quote
BD Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I live in NE Ok, and we have so much water it's insane. I have heard somewhere that if you took all the water out of OK and 'lined' it up, it would reach from FL to NY! Retention ponds everywhere in the city and off HWY's, huge bodies of water, and a jillion and a 1/2 smaller lakes. I have (since last year) been travelling to all these different lakes, of which some are gem clear, and some are mud in a bowl, I've probably hit 20 of them so far. I have a long way to go too lol Also we have double digit fish in almost every body of these waters. I love it also when I can drive 20-45 minutes and be on lake "x", with lake "y", and lake "z" being 10 minutes away. Quote
BD Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Oh and our lakes that are electric only, no wading no swimming are included too. Quote

Super User RoLo Posted March 10, 2006 Super User Posted March 10, 2006 Not a bad idea. It would save everyone two clicks "in-and-out" of the "Profile". If the member were so inclined it might be nice if he or she could display both their Home State and Age on the interface. This might help to put a lot of posted material in its proper perspective. BTW: I spent most of my life in New Jersey, but now I'm a southern cracker (Lake Wales, Florida). Roger Quote
basscat73 Posted March 10, 2006 Author Posted March 10, 2006 Glad to hear other people like the idea too. Are there any mods that could chime in on this to let us know if it's possible to do this someday? If not, it's okay... because this site is amazing as it stands right now. I used to be on iboats.com, which is a nice site also, but I needed something that was more focussed on the sport of fishing, mainly bass. Well, this is my heaven on the internet now. Thanks for being here Bass Resource and all contributers! Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted March 10, 2006 Super User Posted March 10, 2006 If you want your location displayed, simply add it to your "Signature" on your profile. I just did. Quote
basscat73 Posted March 10, 2006 Author Posted March 10, 2006 Yep, that would be perfect if everyone did it. Quote
sinker48 Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 Great idea on location also sometimes the abbreviations used are hard to figure out when you are not from that area . Sinker 48 Quote
