Land Surveyor13 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Does anyone know of someone that will re-paint lures for me. I love the Strike King Red Eye Shad Rattle Traps but d**n if the paint doesn't suck. I wear the paint off of one in a day. I would do it but I am painter challenged. Besides would like to have one of those special jobs done on them. Jerrod Quote

Land Surveyor13 Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 Very nice. However will any of them re-paint the lures I have. You know ship them to them, they do there magic for a fee and send them back? I just hate to waist a perfectly good lure because the paint is knocked off. Jerrod P.S. Never mind i guess I should read a little deeper. I answered my own question. How do the re-paint's paint hold up? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 22, 2009 Super User Posted January 22, 2009 Send a PM to Thad and ask. Quote
Super User CWB Posted January 22, 2009 Super User Posted January 22, 2009 Have you tried Earl Scheib? Seriously I've done a few spots and spoons myself by taking off the hardware, hanging them on a clothesline, getting a can of Krylon and painting them. Won't be as good as a pro could do but if you play around enough you might be surprised! Quote
kbkindle Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 there is probably 25 guys or more here on this site that do repaint lures and do great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
The_Natural Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 If you are looking for a hobby; just get yourself an airbrush and compressor. I had 12 baits I wanted to get repainted, and the cost to send them to Tim Hughes was the same amount I spend on my entire airbrush setup. I found the simple patters with just few colors and some scales are fairly easy after just a little practice. However, the very detailed bluegill and similar patterns take serious talent and I appreciate those very detailed paintjobs even more now that I paint my own baits. If you can get your baits painted for $10 or under you are doing well. I wouldn't paint baits for that price; there is more labor than you think (cleaning your brush in between colors...drying time...etc.) There is definitely some labor involved.... Quote
BIG M Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Ask the same question in the tackle making forum and you will get some hits. Thad does very nice work by the way. Quote

I already have the compressor, line just need the airbrush. Any suggestions for the paint and finish? Where do you buy yours from? Thanks. In the past when I have a top water popper (plastic) that's paint is really bad, I've just gone ahead and removed all (or as much as possible) paint the paint so you're left with a clear top water plug. I've caught several fish on them as well. Quote
madbass Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Sent e-mail. I do custom painting and re-painting. I'm willing to cut deals with BR members if they are interested in having unique paint jobs done for themself. If you can dream it, I can paint it. Pics available. Quote
BARON49_Northern NY Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Not to take anything away from all the talented people in here, but on lures that are not too badly beaten up I use a little automotive touch up paint and after it dries I coat the lure with "Hard as Nails" nail polish and you would be amazed at how long the paint will hold up. I started doing this on jigs where the paint came off. I was quite surprised at how well this touch up would last. Started experimenting on other baits and due to the fact I am no artist this works for me. Quote
Stringjam Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 http://www.baitink.com Actually it is www.bait-ink.com Some nice looking stuff there......I really like his take on crawfish patterns - very unique. Quote
