Bass Hunter12 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I live in eastern Tennessee near Knoxville. Rumor has it that Lake Chilhowee which is Near the great Smokey Moutains has the new World Record Smallmouth lurking in the water. Someone told me that TWRA was doing a shock census, and they found him he weighed over 12lbs. I dunno if they was blowing smoke, but the lake is Smallmouth dominant. THis lake also has stock rainbow trout for the bigger smallmouth to eat. This lake is deep and grassy. Do you think this is true? Quote
Captain Cali Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 THis lake also has stock rainbow trout for the bigger smallmouth to eat. :o You mean other states stock lakes with fish??? :o Say it ain't so!! ;D If it is true let the asterik debate begin!! ;D Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 21, 2006 Super User Posted February 21, 2006 No. These "rumors" are like an urban myth, told over and over again throughout the region. I have heard this same story about the Tennessee River below Wheeler, Wilson and Pickwick over the years, but I have talked with a number of TWRA officers and although they occasionally hear the same thing, it's not true. Let's look at it this way for a moment: There has been no claim of a smallmouth being caught weighing 11 lbs over the past fifty years. There is only one fish that has ever been reported to be that size and it is the World Record weighing in at more than 1 LB heavier than #2. 11 lbs 15 oz. is absolutley mind boggling when you compare it to the next largest or the top ten that have been documented. Super User 5bass Posted February 21, 2006 Super User Posted February 21, 2006 RW,you ever caught one of those "meanmouths"? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 21, 2006 Super User Posted February 21, 2006 Yes, a couple, but they were small. The ones I've caught fought just like a smallmouth and both were almost black, which is not necessarily a characteristic of the fish. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted February 21, 2006 Super User Posted February 21, 2006 I saw a picture of the record meanmouth in a magazine a while back.Pretty cool. Quote
CJ Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 WOW!Just looked up meanmouth on the web. Those are cool fish.I wondered why here wouldn't be a hybrid.I guess I know now, there is.I seen the Missourri state record at 5lbs. 10 oz.What a beautiful fish.I also seen it was caught on Table Rock.I got a new mission whenI go visit my Dad. Chris Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 They will say that about any lake not that it is wrong or right but I wouldn't put much faith in it. Quote
Triton21 Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 CJ, the Meanmouth is in Paintsville Lake in the Eastern part of Ky. No reason why there souldn.t be some in KY and Barkley with all the nice Spots and Smallies there. Quote
