gajpb Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Already starting to think about night fishing on my home lake--Sinclair (GA)--and I have a question. I've never spent much time night fishing, but on our lake there are lit docks al over the place. I know these are good to hit. But what other spots are good? I got some discount jitterbugs recently and have thought about using them for point and flat fishing at night? Good technique? I guess my question is--what's good to fish at night, other than lit docks? Besides--everyone hits those docks. Thanks in advance Quote
Purplebasscat Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 I fish a lot of the same places that hold fish during the day. Flats and points that are close to deep water always seem to be a good bet. Stumps or any kind of wood on it make it that much better. Bluffs with shelves, small pockets, and rock slides are winners too. Run a single spin down 'em or back off and throw a jig right against them and pull it down the ledges. I have caught most of my best fish on Table Rock and Bull Shoals on bluffs it seems. I throw a jig and #25 Crawfrog or a black single spin with some kind of zoom chunk 99% of the time after dark. Those two baits tend to produce better fish too. In the heat of the summer i will fish a big worm some when hitting brushpiles in deep water. But a heavy single spin (3/4 oz) jigged or slow rolled over the brushpiles is a real sleeper for big fish. One more thing, a good black light is a MUST!! Quote
Peter E. Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 I agree with the black light because any light that does not attract dem dar bugs is a good thing. I like to throw say: Black Jitter sticks, Large black Hula Poppers, Black Super spooks, and large black colorado bladed spinner baits. I like to fish mostly top water or near to it. I beleive that the fish mostly key in on the silloettes of the lures more than anything else. I also go with big lures that make alot of noise or throw off a good vibration. Like Purple Bass Cat said i fish most of the same places i do during the day light hours. Like you i also like to key in on lighted docks. A good head lamp is a must also especailly if you get the kind with the blacklight lenses. Good Luck bud and hang on i catch most of my biggest bass at night. Peter Quote
Curado Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 There's a new bait out you need to try, it's a Hart spinnerbait called the Black Hart; great for night fishing. Quote
Jeff P. Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 A big black or dark colored spinnerbait is one of my first choices when fishing at night. I like to fish it on flats and points. Also, at night I like to fish large, dark-colored soft plastics. For example, I really like to fish a 7" power worm with black and red, T-rigged. For docks, I like a large black and red tube. Also, a dark-colored buzzbait can be really good around docks. Riprap is something I also like to target at night, because the rocks keep the surrounding water a bit warmer after dark. This is a good place to throw a jig with a craw chunk trailer. Quote
