I just recieved an email from Capt. Kevin Dailey.  I have been invited to be the alternate aboard the "Fresh Dailey" for the 26th Annual Bacardi® Rum Billfish Tournament in the Bahamas.

I fished for a few years in New England alongside Cat. Kev at the Stellwagen Bank fishery in Cape Cod BAy.  Capt Kevin's 1st mate, Rob Peacock, was probably the 1 person that gave me enough info to keep me in the game when learning how to fish for Giant Bluefin Tuna.

I'm very excited to see if I can get the time off from work and then to see if I can actually afford this.  Kev has offered to split my ticket, he'll fly me down but I fly myself back and pay all my own expenses.

I believe it is a 4 person team and they need someone who is capable of filling in at any position.  I hope this is like riding a bike because it's been quite a few months since I've been offshore.

Will know if this is really possible by tonite

That's great LBH,  This sounds like a great chance to get a partically paid fishing vacation.  Hope you can work it out.

GREAT!!! I hope you have a blast; billfish are so beautiful in the water. Thier very skin seems to come alive in colors that swirl and flash like neon signs. Those Bluegin Tuna are some of the best tasting fish that swim. I have never hooked much less caught one but I would love to have done it. Let us know how it goes and we all will be cheering for you.

Sounds awesome.  I used to work on an offshore fishing boat at South Padre Island, and eventhough I consider myself more of a bass fisherman, there isn't anything quite like catching some offshore monsters.  Good luck and catchabiggun.

Russ,

When you are lying in bed getting ready for the big pond in the sky, you sure won't say, "Man, if I had only worked more."

Nope, you will think back on this exciting adventure and the fun times you had fishing.

I cant quite figure out why anyone in their right mind would want to go catch some ol' billfish that is probably longer than him, stronger than him, weighs more than him,and can jump higher than him......in the Bahamas of all places! ;D

I hope you get to go man. 8-)

Yea, it's not gonna happen.  Combination of things biggest being loot.  I'll have plenty of opportunity to stick Bluefin this fall.

Another good friend of mine, Tim Hughes from Marshfield mass., will be taking the spot.  This will be his first time fishing for any kind of sailfish so kudos to Tim!

I hate to hear that for you.  Atleast there is the TEXAS trip.  We will be glad to have you here.
