volfan60 Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 While looking at my BPS spring catalog I came the page with all the different lure sprays/attractants. I have never used them before, I know that fish taste and smell. Which one do you guys recommend? Quote
BARON49_Northern NY Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I am not sold 100% on scents and sprays as attractants. I do use MegaStrike to "lube" my swimbaits so they come through cover easier as well as Fish Formula Gamefish to keep my plastics from drying out. Quote
christopherjake Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I use Bang shad scent. Not sure if it really works but on tough days I use it. Quote
Calcutta Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 After fishin rivers with low to no visibilty I decided to try an attractant. I had good luck by soaking foam earplugs in yum LPT attractant then shoving them into my plastic tubes and other hollow bodied soft plastics. It seemed to work pretty good. Quote
silvercliff_46 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I don't think the smell of gas helps you none, but I'm not real sure if any of it works either. Some of us stink more then others, so a cover scent might be in order. Personally I think burbon applied to your inner self, then letting it ooze out your pores helps, well at least you won't care if you stink or not. Heck! you won't even care if your catchin' or not! Super User Muddy Posted January 22, 2009 Super User Posted January 22, 2009 I use a mixture of Anise Oil and i mix it in a spray bottle with Mineral oil. It works for me. Quote
The Bass Fisher Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I like the Yum sprays, but watch out with using them on white lures...they can stain them. Quote
Super User CWB Posted January 22, 2009 Super User Posted January 22, 2009 As far as pure scent, I like Chompers Garlic. Lasts a long time and works! I think any scent is better than none for 2 reasons. First it gives you confidence. Second I have very oily and high PH skin which have been proven to to repel bass. Quote
exist Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 i have been fishing for at least 30 yrs and never really believed any of those fish attractants really ever worked, and i will admit i have used many of them with no success, with one exception, Megastrike!. i really believe it works,i have caught fish without it,but it seems i catch more with it,wheather it's my imaganaiton or not,i have confidence in it. [as a side note i am just a little annoyed that MS changed it's formula by adding garlic to it.] Quote

[as a side note i am just a little annoyed that MS changed it's formula by adding garlic to it.] Bobby has already addressed this with you. There is NO GARLIC in the new MegaStrike formula: Re: MegaStrike's " New Improved Formula "For 2009 Reply #25 - Jan 19th 2009 at 11:57:08 First off where are you guys fishing -and second can you fit me in your boat- It sounds like a good day on the water. As for the "garlicky smell" Its not garlic -its a combination of the foods and aminos. If you apply it to a plastic bait and smell it there is a very unique and distinct odor . Its probably like nothing you have ever smelled before. Believe me . When you talked about variables -and conditions -they are always different-We are actually looking for the word "CONTROL" When testing with live creatures there is no true absolute control. I know what was added to the New Formula and I wouldn't have done it unless there was a positive reason for it. We do not need any marketing gimmicks here. That's not what we are about.. Thank you for the feedback.Bobby@MegaStrike Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted January 22, 2009 Super User Posted January 22, 2009 The only time I use scent is when the plastics in the bag start to dry out. Quote
Furbit Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I use either MegaStrike or Edge Hot Sauce Gel. However I don't believe any of them actually attract strikes but instead just help the bass to hold on a bit longer once they do strike. I will say though that the bigger fish I have caught seem to smack the the Edge Hot Sauce Gel more, or it just seems I get bigger fish with it or I am in the right spot or this or that, but no solid proof one is better then the other. One thing I do know for sure is my hookup percentage on Frogs with The Hot Sauce added has increased a great deal. I think MegaStrike, however works better on worms and jigs, for me anyways. Quote
