Guest avid Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Listen to KU! In the pre-spawn time I throw the biggest slowest nastiest looking spinnerbait in stained water with gold and copper blades. Many people quit throwing copper blades long ago but they still work everywhere. This is a go-to pattern custom made for early spring fishing as weel as the rest of the year. Go Slow! HMMMMMMMMMMMM Big spinnerbait. Never thought of that. I have a couple with gold blades or painted blades (no copper). I think I'll try that baby. I have to change somethings and maybe tossing a big bladed spinnerbait is one of them. thanks for the tip LR: That "reel set" you describe sounds very much like the set I use when I'm using circle hooks. I know how to do it, only a certain hit on the Matts bluegill would set my heart pumping so bad I would probably jerk the rod like a 9 year old when he sees a bobber go under ;D ;D Quote
Lightninrod Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 "LR: That "reel set" you describe sounds very much like the set I use when I'm using circle hooks." No, not exactly, actually far from it . With a circle hook bait, you're just reeling to set the hook with no rod movement(theoretically anyway :-?) needed. I didn't mean to imply that the reeling is the main ingredient, it's just the first of a very violent set of events that happen very rapidly with hopefully, a very P/O'd Bass being brought to you with a hook(s) sunk deep enouth in her cartilage to keep her comin' ;D. Triton_Mike Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Reel set is the same exact way you want to set on a dropshot bite . Same principle but different rods, line, tackle etc. T Mike Quote

BassNut Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Since they are not on the beds yet. You gotta find where they are staging at. Here's what I would do, once I found a good spot that looks like they would spawn, I would set my self up and cast out to the deeper waters and slooooowly fish a c-rigged Big worm Or salamander back to you, and like it's been said, If you think you going slow enough, slow down a little more. The Bass should be staging out there in the deeper waters waiting for that temp change to bring them in for the spawn! ;D Quote
CJ Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 WOW! That alot of good input and I didn't take time to read it all.I have only fished Florida once and WOW!!My Dad caught a 7lb.15oz.on Toho.I really can't tell you what will work but I will say this, the mature bass I have caught, came from a slow presentation.Remember most of the time bass are in a negative to neutral feeding mode and their lazy.By the way Avid I take it you only fish artificle baits?I here shiners are good, but I am an artificle man myself.Good Luck Quote
