how many lakes

how many different lakes do you fish normally?  do you move around from boredom, success at different times of the year?  how far will you drive for a one day trip?

Normally, about 6.  With tournaments, about 15-20 different lakes.  I will go about 2 hrs away for a 1 day trip.

When I lived in the north, I probably fished about 20 different lakes and streams each year.

I always targeted 'one' species per outing so some of the lakes were for largemouth,

some for smallmouth, some for northern pike and some for chain pickerel.

Naturally, I targeted the pre-spawn and fall peaks seasons, which were very different on different lakes.

Most of the waters were within an hour of my home, but some were about two hours (one-way).

On faraway lakes I usually forfeited the dawn bite, and rehashed the day on the long ride home.

I got about 8 that I fish more regularly but I fish a lot of different places every year.

Three typically.  I have found a new lake in Sonoma COunty, California near where my son is going to school.  So in a few months I will say 4 lakes.  (The new one is where the gal a few years back caught a 22#-8oz LMB!  The lake is 74 acres and 7-15 ft deep. Just trolling motors allowed.  I can't wait.

I fish about 4 regularly.  Where I go can be dictated by a lot of things.  Like who I m going with, what type of fishing I want to do or work on, wind, weekday or weekend, and lately gas prices.  One of these lakes I fish is about an hour and a half from me.  Two years ago I was going down there about once a week during the summer.  Last summer I was forced to fish lakes more close to me because of gas prices.  As long as I have somebody going with me, I have no problems driving quite a ways for a one day trip.  My dad and I have drove 5 hours a couple of times to fish a big farm pond that we got permission to fish.

Here in MD, I usually hit about 5. If I add in a few I hit in PA, you can add 4-5 more. My fishing partner moved this month so there may be a few more I add this year if gas doesn't get much more out of control!

As far as tournies go we usually fish around 7 differant lakes. I fish the Traverls Division and it offers me a chance to double up sometimes on my stronger lakes.

A few years ago I made it a habit to hit at least one new lake each month from March to August.

There are some many smaller lakes within' 5 hours of me I haven't hit half of them yet. If I travel 4-5

hours to a new lake to fish I'll usually stay the night at a local hotel, change up and hit another new

lake on the way home the next day. Each lake is a bit differant and it introduces me to a bunch of

differant water condition and patterns. Some are man made while some are natural lakes that are

creek or spring fed so they all fish a little differant.

I know that it's made me a better angler by doing this.

i fish around 35 to 40 different lakes/streams a year, the farthest being about a 9 hour drive, but not all is bassfishing

We fish 12 lakes/reservoirs for the "clear water challenge" (CWC) every year and then we have our main reservoir which is going private this year.

Looks like Eric and I won't be competing in the CWC, we took 4th the first year, 1st last year and 3rd this year.  Going to end on a good note for numerous reasons(other obligations would keep us from almost 1/2 the events this year)

Other than that, we will still have access to our primary honey hole, even though it will be private, where I plan to really concentrate on learning this year.

I've learned about lots of things I want to give real time to that competing didn't allow me to.

About 28 or more from small ponds to large lakes to rivers. I am not counting the lakes and rivers outside my state that I fish a bunch thoughout the year.

Check the weight on that fish, a 22-8 is a world record.

I have 6 that I've been a regular at last year since I got the little duck boat and 4 others that don't allow watercraft because of Zebra mussels. Them 4 are all within a 15 minute drive, have nice Bass and I use them extensively for practicing new techniques and tackle.

One I didn't get to last year on the boat (Marsh Creek Lake) is less than a 1hr drive and was featured on an ESPN online story as one of the top 3 Bass lakes in Pennsylvania. That is one of the first trips my son and I have planned for his Spring Break to check out. I just got the map made up yesterday.

I also fish in the local river and creeks for smallmouth and I even have a native trout stream within a mile from my house.

I'm getting lazy in my old age and find myself pretty much just fishing my home lake.  As far as that 22# 8oz. bass goes.  I don't believe it.  Nobody who is remotely connected to bass fishing can fail to know the value of the next world record.  The fish will go through all kinds of examinations.  I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't x-ray'd to make sure their is no sinkers in it's belly.

I have 2 impoundments I fish on a local river system. They provide a variety of conditions and really demand you to be on your game to go out and hook a few practicing....I fish the closet lake the most, the tournaments I am fishing this year should take me to over a dozen lakes this upcoming year....As far as small water fishing I have 10 ponds i fish depending on my mood.

One of the places I fish alot has 3 lakes on it.  Most of the time I switch lakes because of a scenery change.  In the winter months I fish the clear lake most of the time, spring the stained weedless  one or the murkey weedy one.  Its more of a decision based on the day or sometimes I will fish 2 of them.

I fish about 5 but my boat never leaves the water.  I live on the Harris chain and and I motor to all 5 of them.  Not too often though

I fish as many lakes as possible.  I have my home lake (Berryessa) in CA, but I like to try all kinds of different lakes.  I find that learning where bass habitate in different lakes during different times of the year helps my overall fishing success.  Plus going onto a new lake makes the hunt even more exciting.

I fish 5 on a regular basis,but I fish my #1 lake about 80% of the time.It's only 2 miles from where I live and is one of the top five lakes in Mississippi for giant,lunker bass.Even though I like a little variety,it's hard to pass up a jewel of a lake that's so close to home.
