wildcatbass Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Again, I know you either love or hate Ike... However, I got done with his biography - Fishing on the Edge - last night, and I'm more of a fan now than I could have ever imagined. To those who don't like Ike: Read this book. Not only is it a GREAT picture of what it's like coming up through the Federation and into "The Bigs" of B.A.S.S., but it shows Iaconelli's love for the sport too. It humanizes him and if you're too close minded to see through the tattoos and break dancing and yelling, this book will help your cause. It will make you understand that he has a TRUE PASSION for the sport, and chooses to express it differently than many of the "old guard" of B.A.S.S. To those who love Ike: Read this book. HIGHLIGHT it. I gained so much knowledge from dissecting his approaches to the water, that I haven't missed a day of fishing since I started reading it (lucky to live in Florida too!). It's gonna be an indispensible part of my fishing preparation for years to come. It will also make you LAUGH. I literally laughed out loud quite a few times...that Mike Ike is one funny dude! Anyone else who's read it or is considering it, sound off... Quote
Cajun1977 Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 im glad you liked it i was thinking about reading it but ive heard it wasnt all that greatt ive heard that about some of his videos also Quote
IllinoisBasser Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 I bought his book.....Anyone wanna buy it cheap? I didn't care for it. Quote
preach4bass Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 I read it and suprisingly liked it. I like Ike. I don't like all of his language or antics, but I love his intensity and his fishing style, so I decided to read the book. It was autobiographical, informative, and just a plain ol' good read. I'm with wildcat, I laughed out loud a few times. And his tips are useful. Definately a good book. Quote
basspro48 Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 I loved his book. It was an entertaining insight into the life of a tournament angler. He goes in-depth and explains all of the demands and rewards of being a successful angler, but still manages to entertain you with funny stories and comments. Quote
Guest avid Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 I bought the book and it was just ok. There were a few laughs. It showed his competitive zeal and the amount of dedication it takes to make it into the bass "bigs" It did make me like him more than I had, but the book is about a pretty normal kid growing up in New Jersey. I thought it was odd that he did not mention his father at all. But the stuff with his grandfather was cool. Actually Ike's screaming and carrying on is not what bothers me about him. It's the way he throws back his short bass. It's one thing to throw a fish back. It's another to throw it away, like a piece of garbage. Thats what he did last classic. Maybe this year will be different, we'll see. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted January 13, 2006 Super User Posted January 13, 2006 I thought it was more entertaining than informative. All the tips as far as fishing goes was pretty basic stuff. Nothing you wouldn't learn from reading the beginners articles on this site. It did however show where he comes from and I can understand why he is the way he is. It also showed that big time tourney fishing is not a life for all. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted January 13, 2006 Super User Posted January 13, 2006 I thought it was odd that he did not mention his father at all. But the stuff with his grandfather was cool. Didn't he not know his father. I could be wrong, but I thought there was a part in the book where he said his mom told him that he was better off not knowing him. Quote
Will Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Well, Ike isn't my favorite angler, but I bought his book and loved it. Quote

Fish4FunInFl Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 I enjoyed the book. And yup I think Ike is crazy for sure. ( in a good way ) I also enjoyed Jay Yelas' book too. Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 14, 2006 Super User Posted January 14, 2006 Ike's book is very good. It has a good, fast paced story line to give you insight into his life; good fishing tips; and how the future success of B.A.S.S. and professional fishing must be strengthened by the influx of "non fishing" money. Look what NASCAR has done and parallel that with professional bass fishing. When professional bass fishing gets to the level of the NASCAR sponsors we will see some good money for our pros. Have you seen Ike's DVD, "Taking Luck Out of The Equation"? It is very good. Professional produced and directed. I suggest you get it to compliment the book. Happy New Year! Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I liked his book.Of course, anything about bass fishing I'll read.I like Ike and his style of fishing. It's the same way I fish(only a lot better...lol).I'm with avid on the way he throws back the "useless"fish.I respect my quarry enough to properly release it.An extra second in a Bass tournament day doesn't help that much.I'm thinking he's playing to the camera. Top Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 where did y'all get the book? I wouldn't mind picking it up and checking it out? AL Quote
Will Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 I bought mine from Amazon.com, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0553804456/sr=1-1/qid=1137302909/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-1505880-9268709?%5Fencoding=UTF8 You can get one from Ike's website, but it costs more there. Bass Pro and Cabelas might carry the book, I've even seen one at Wal-Mart. Quote
Yankee_Bassman Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 I'm not an Ike fan.....it's the screaming and yelling, not the tatoos or the break dancing....if I enjoyed screaming, I'd just hang around the house..... Quote
