piranha Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 If you had a choice, which would you choose given the following scenarios and why. I don't know the specifics of what each person will be speaking about. Scenario 1: 2 hour drive each way $255 total cost plus incidentals Speakers - Jimmy Houston, Woo Daves, Shaw Grigsby, Mike DelVisco, Joe Thomas, Mike Auten Scenario 2: 2.5 hour drive each way $265 total cost plus incidentals Speakers - Jimmy Houston, George Cochran, Ken Cook, Randy Howell, Mike Auten, Joe Balog Scenario 3: 5 hour drive each way $365 total cost plus one lost day (unpaid) at work plus incidentals Speakers - Kevin VanDam, Mike Iaconelli, Ken Cook, Mark Menendez, Randy Howell, Tony Bean Quote
bitethebullet Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Go with scenario 1. It really doesn't matter that much who is doing the speaking as they all basically cover certain topics that pertain to the local conditions. There is a lot of information presented and go armed with questions as they are more than happy to address your needs. Jimmy Houston is a hoot and the others all have good things to add. Take the time and money you save from scenario 3 and book a charter day or buy some tackle and gas to practice what you learned. Quote
Cajun1977 Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 i would choose one or two just because id love to see jimmy houston Quote
phisher_d Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I'd go with #1 if it was my money. Those guys will still be great and you save $110 to buy whatever they tell you to Quote
basser89 Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I'd have to go with 2, but I'd LOVE to see KVD!!! I've seen Jimmy (very informative and entertaining), Woo (great presenter with a wealth of information!) and Mike DelVisco (wasn't real thrilled with his seminar) that's why I wouldn't go with 1. Quote
srv1990 Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I'd say 1 or 2, having seen some of these guys on TV and reading some of their stuff, you're still going to pick up good tips. Plus, you're not out as much dough! BASS U. is coming to St. Louis, where I live, and the presenters are Jimmy Houston, Larry Nixon, George Cochran, Gary Klein and Davy Hite. I really want to go, but the weekend is Feb. 4 & 5, which is not a good weekend for me. > TC Quote
preach4bass Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I'd go to #3. I couldn't pass up the oppertunity to learn from the best (KVD) IMHO. Quote
Madhouse27 Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Number 1. Jimmy and Woo sound like an entertaining and informative afternoon to me. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted January 10, 2006 Super User Posted January 10, 2006 I'd look at why I'm going first, just to meet these individuals or learn a technique. What am I looking to learn. #3 appeals to me more. Quote
Chris Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I would figure out what topics they where covering and which ones you wanted to enhance or needed help on. Quote
FALCON Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I'D HAVE TO GO WITH #3 JUST BECAUSE OF KVD. MY STYLE IS MORE LIKE HIS AND I'D WANT TO HEAR EVERYTHING HE HAS TO SAY. Quote
piranha Posted January 10, 2006 Author Posted January 10, 2006 I tried to get an agenda for the presentations but they didn't have one. I would like to see KVD and Ike, because I think they have the most to offer in terms of practical knowledge that will improve success, but if they are going to cover the same info as the others, then I will save my money. I don't know if they are teaching in a general way, or if each is giving a talk about their specific strengths. Anyone know the answer to that? Also, it indicates that they are offering a 15% discount at BPS on certain items. Anyone know what kind of items are excluded? Thanks for all your help. Quote
bassnleo Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I attended BMU in Cincinatti OH, 2004. I saw KVD, George Cochran, Dion Hibdon, Shaw Grigsby, Mike DelVisco plus one other I can't remember. KVD, Hibdon, Cochran, were awesome! Would rate others as good. Dion is absolutely hilarious puls very informative. KVD, just plain awesome all the way around. Cochran was also awesome as a teacher. Only thing I didn't care for about the whole weekend was I kind of got tired of certain pros really hammering their sponsors products to us, but heck I guess that's what their paid to do. Quote
Guest avid Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 To me this is a no brainer. #1 has great pros. Is only two hours away and is the cheapest. #3 Is impressive because Of Ike an KVD but a 5 hour drive each way for me ain't gonna happen, so add a motel room and some meals to the already too expensive trip, more even if another days pay has to be lost. Rattlinrogue Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I'd have to go with #3.I'd really love to hear KVD and Ike speak. My dream presenters would be Denny Braur and Gary Klein for their pitchin'/flippin' prowess and throw in Zell Rowland for his topwater ability. Quote
Peter E. Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 #3 cause i live an hour and a half from Auburn! Plus those are the Guys I think are the best. Peter Quote
basspro48 Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I'd go with #1 since I'm already going to be able to meet KVD, not that I'm trying to brag or anything , I'm going to the Bassmaster U in Hampton VA. The presenters are KVD, Ike, Jimmy Houston, Gary Klein, George Cochran, and there's a few more I can't remember right now. Quote
wildcatbass Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 #3 without a doubt! KVD is...well, KVD. Ike is...well, Ike! Menendez is a "local" favorite for me since we're both from Kentucky. That would be part of my dream line up, along with Skeet Reese. Quote
Jawjacker Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 #1. KVD-nuff said #2. Ike- to see what all the fuss is about #3. Ken Cook- He's a biologist, I think #4. Mark Menendez- Met him once & he was great, sat around & talked like an old friend #5. Randy Howell- like the way he talks #6. Tony Bean- smallmouth man Opinions are like elbows most people have at least one ;) Quote
directlink Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 I would go with #3 because I would also love to see KVD in person. Quote
