abelfisher Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I am so tired ALREADY of this winter! My fishing lake is muddy, the weather sucks, what else can I say. I am ready for Spring! Can't wait to get out again. It's been 3-4 weeks since I 've been out and it seems like a year. What are you guys doing to kick the winter doldrums. It is depressing!!!!!!!! :'( Quote
Cajun1977 Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 i usually go ice fishing this this winter in utah is warmer than our summer so im just waiting Quote
Spencer W Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Buy some new tackle , service your reels, reorganize your tackle just a few that come to mind Quote
Super User cart7t Posted January 7, 2006 Super User Posted January 7, 2006 Went to a small boat and sport show today in Illinois. Bought 3 new rods and a few lures. I've already stripped, cleaned, lubed and respooled all my reels. I'm doing a complete tackle reorganization as well. Sunday it's supposed to be in the mid-50's temp wise so I'll probably go get the boat ready tomorrow and fish Sunday. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted January 7, 2006 Super User Posted January 7, 2006 I've been trying to put together a fishing log. I am trying to make it just the way I want it. The bait monkey has also been fairly busy. Some how he learned how to speak Japanese and got me a Shimano Twinpower straight from Japan. I'll admitt that I am not a real big spinning reel fan, but this thing is sweet. I've also been reading a lot of articles on this site's library. Quote
Guest avid Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Can't really comment on winter doldrums seeing as how winter bass fishing in florida is the best time in terms of comfort. But I did send two reels to reel mech for an annual service. Seems like I just got in the habit of doing equipment in January from my NY days. Quote
CJ Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Painting crankbaits and other lures, building jigs, studying topos, dreaming, and I been fishing a little bit. Quote
DDbasser Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Well, this winter has seen above average temps here in Oklahoma. It's supposed to be 72 degrees tomorrow. Water Temps on most lakes are in the high 40's to low 50's. So we've been fishing the last 2 weekends. Quote

KYbass1276 Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 well lets see have been practicing pitching and flipping so much in the yard people driving by must think I'm nuts. buying more lures, reading past issues of bassmaster, and last but not least chaseing my father in law's deer running beagle dogs and wishing I was fishing the whole time. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Bassnut, that's what I did(practiced pitching) when Katrina had the whole area locked up for a month,If you need work on pitching or flipplng, now's a good time to do it. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Well, we got to fish right up till nov. 21st this year which is pretty darn good for RI. Since then I've put 2 psychologists, 1 psycho-therapist and a lawyer on retainer,...ya know, "just in case I crack" lol Seriously though, we have been doing tons of research for the Lake Fork trip and buying up a heavy arsenal of plastics for next year. I'm slowly buying the stuff I use in bulk. I bought over 500 senkos so far from *** seeing as how many of the people I take seem to be able to plow thru my supply rather quickly. It will be nice to not have to run to Dicks before each trip next year. Jig boxes are looking very nice with the intro of terminators new color "skeet's secret". Still havn't touched my reels yet, contemplating what to re-spool with for Fork as the fishing there is drasticaly different than what we do here. So far it looks like 24lb fusion with a 10 ft vanish 20# leader for the beds and still not sure what to use for chuckin'. This post just reminded me to go flip the battery maintenence switch downstairs. Kepping the T/M batt's nice and toasty. Unfortunately I have been super busy through the holidays which helped keep my mind off fishing but also made it so I've had to slack off on the forum. I'm back now, and will be starting 2 projects for Glenn today that I have been putting off for too long now. A special thanks to the other mods for carrying me through the holidays. With the new board, there also came lots of "post-moving" and re-organizing that both Chris and Roadwarrior did on their own. Lots of work there that I just didn't have the time to be a part of, thanks guys. Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 7, 2006 Super User Posted January 7, 2006 65°.......what a bliss. Quote
Minuteman Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I had started packing up and organizing my Bass gear after all the lakes froze in early December, but since then we've had higher than normal temps and all lakes are ice free again for at least 2 more weeks. So, the ultra light trout tackle goes back and the big sticks are out for tomorrow. If I can't find Bass there are Pike I've been waiting to go after since fall. Reminds me, I have to charge a battery. Quote
Hula_King Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Oh, I hear ya there. This has got to be the worst winter here in my neck of the woods. Temps have been uncharacteristically high; its been in the upper 40s and 50s the last couple of weeks. Its too warm for ice fishing, but its too cold to fish open water. :'( C'mon mother nature bring out the cold, so I can get some ice fishing in this winter! Quote
Peter E. Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 65°.......what a bliss. Ditto. ;D Same here right now in Alabama. Peter Quote
kbj3579 Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 I am counting the days down till Jan. 22rd. I am going to Okeechobee to fish the BASS Southern Tour as a non boater. I am so psyched, can't wait. Never been there and I am pulling my boat from VA to prefish Jan. 23rd-25th. Tournament starts Jan. 26th. I have been reading and studying everything I can get my hands on. I'm ready to go. Hopefully I can start 2006 off with a bang. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted January 9, 2006 Super User Posted January 9, 2006 82 degrees Sat and Sun. Do I need to say anymore. Sorry. Quote
