benzo73 Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I am thinking about taking my sons ice fishing and I need some advice. 1. Do you think it is a good idea to take children(safety factor) 2. If you think it is safe how should I dress me and them I am in Colorado and I plan to go to granby reservoir a high elevation lake. My main concern is safety my boys are 15 and 6 so if you have any advice please fill me in on anything you believe would be helpful, thanks in advance Quote

camofish Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 sure, if you want to take your son ice fishing, go for it. Dress him the same as if you were going to go outside and play in the snow, sledding, etc. And remember to bring extra glove, too. Here check this link out: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1134371099/0#0 a few pictures into it, there is my son at just less than 3 months old on the ice with me. so go for it, I've had him running and pulling in tipup line since he was 3 years old. Super User cart7t Posted January 7, 2006 Super User Posted January 7, 2006 Granby? I used to go out to Shadow Mtn Lake and Grand Lake, Granby's neighbors in my younger days. I've heard it is and has been, extremely low for a while, boat docks are quite a distance from the actual lake itself. Anyway, not an ice fisherman myself cause I can't imagine standing out in freezing cold peering into a hole in the ice but another spot you might want to try is the spillway below Shadow Mtn lake right next door. If there's water flowing I imagine it won't be frozen. If so, we used to catch trout there. BTW, where do you live at Benzo? I can't imagine making that trek up there if you live in the Denver area. Do you still live in CO? I never lived there but vacationed there many times, first as a boy in the mid-60's to early 70's and then later in life. My brother lived in the "springs" when he was stationed at Carson in the early 80's. We usually stayed at a place called Bell Crest resort on Shadow Mtn. I understand the resort is out of business but the buildings are still there. I haven't been up there in probably 25 years, I've heard from my parents who have traveled up there frequently over the years that the area has changed drastically. Condo city. Quote
