huskertko Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 They are speaking and giving presentations tonight at the Kansas City Sport Show, going to go and see them as well as all the other stuff at the show that I either don't need or can't afford, but will still probably buy. Anyone seen presentations by KVD or Chapman, what should i expect? Will it be informative or just entertainment? I assume KVD is there primarily since he want the Classic and Chapman because he is a local boy, but I am still excited to see them. Going to try to get KVD to autograph my copy of Secrets of a Champion.. Quote
preach4bass Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 You're in for a great time. I met KVD at the classic last Summer. You shouldn't have any problems getting his autograph. He's as nice in person as he seems on TV. It's guys like him who make this sport so great. Quote
rocknfish9001 Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Ive seen him twice. Once because it was a seminar at his own dad's store, and he was a nice guy and didnt have any problem with people talking to hm and asking for autographs. The other was at the "greatest fishing show" in detroit. I didnt get to talk to him there, but again, hes very informative and helpful, and still is polite to the fans. Quote
DDbasser Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 After reading a couple of KVD's books and watching several of his video's, I'd say you are in for a very informative seminar. Don't know much about Brent Chapman but being a touring pro you should be able to pick up some things from him too!!! Take a lot of notes!!! Quote
huskertko Posted January 5, 2006 Author Posted January 5, 2006 I am really looking forward to it now. I am assuming it isn't going to be a "full" seminar because i see now that the times for KVD and Brent are only 1 hour apart, but any info from these guys will be good for me. Brent is a local guy from the KC area, he won the Busch Shoot Out at Table Rock and the Top Gun event in Texas this last year. Quote
Flatfish Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Went to one of his seminars last year at the KC Show and it was very informative, he is one very nice young man. The most impressive part was after the show when he had a question and answer session, my 14 yr. old son asked him a question about rod selection and it became a one on one conversation, he took the time to answer a 14 year old angler's question thoroughly and that impressed me big time. When we left KVD had a couple of new fan's. Quote
GobbleDog Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I've never asked for or ever wanted anyone's autograph, but I admit I'd like to have KVD's autograph on a lure or a tackle box or something like that. Quote
bassdocktor Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I've seen KVD quite a few times and he's always informative. I've actually seen him give the same seminar twice, but the second time was just as helpful because I missed alot the first time. He tries to spend alot of time answering questions. A couple times that I've seen him they've had to almost pull him away so the next seminar could go on even though it was at his brother's store. bassdocktor Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Two very knowledgable anglers. You will be both informed and entertained. Quote
jayhawkfishin Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I went to the sportshow the first day it opened. There wasn't a lot going on then however my dad and i found some guides for Lake Fork where we are going this summer. It a good time a good place to go is the St. Croix people and talk to them. I learned a lot talking to there sales reps. Quote
huskertko Posted January 6, 2006 Author Posted January 6, 2006 Just got back from the sportshow a while ago, and I have to say KVD is truly a world class person. He talked about fishing jerkbaits in this part of the country this time of year, which was both informative and very entertaining. He answered questions as if the person asking them was the most important person in his life at that moment. I am sure he has been asked every question in the book many times over again, but still answered them as if that was the first time he had ever been asked that question. Afterward he signed my copy of his book, Secrets of a Champion, with a personalized autograph, which was very cool. As I was leaving for the night, he was walking toward me, and I stop to see if I could ask him a question, and without hesitation he stopped and I got to talk with him one on one for a few minutes, which was even cooler that the personalized autograph. Unfortunately, I couldn't stay for Brent Chapman because I wanted to get home to play with my 3 yr old boy before he went to bed. All in all, well worth the $9 to get in the show. ON a side note for anyone interested in the KC Chiefs, according to Bill Grigsby, the Herm Edwards deal was signed, sealed and delivered this afternoon, even though no one is saying so yet. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted January 6, 2006 Super User Posted January 6, 2006 I wis I could have gone tonight. I would have really like to hear/see KVD. Sounds like it was great. I am kind of dissappointed if the Herm Edwards news is correct. I think Al Saunders paid his dues and even turned down head coaching jobs the past few years to hopefully one day be the Chiefs head coach. Quote
mcipinkie Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 All you KC area people: Aaron Martens is at the show Friday. Roland Martin on Saturday. Stop by and see me at the Jack Miller Marine booth. We're right next to the show stage. I would love to show you the new Skeeters. We have a new 20i. It's really a trick boat. Brent is one of our Skeeter drivers. I saw him Wednesday in his solo event. He was excellent. I enjoyed him more than KVD today. Remember: Ain't none of them Chiefs bass fishermen. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted January 6, 2006 Super User Posted January 6, 2006 . Remember: Ain't none of them Chiefs bass fishermen. That's not true. I have heard that Priest Holmes is an avid bass fisherman. Trent Green's wife also got him a 2 man bass boat for his B-day last year. Like he couldn't afford something a little nicer. Quote
