Madhouse27 Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 The other post about bass shows got me thinking about Match Fishing. Did any of you guys get addicted to this one by any chance. For those that haven't seen it this is the lowdown. Each week two top pro's from FLW and Citgo Bass are put in one boat together. Each gets an equal amount of control time (front of the boat). There are rules that limit the water the rear fisherman can cast to. The guy in control chooses the water, speed etc. He can fish to his own strengths and also fish to render the back angler's effectiveness to a minimum. It was a five fish tournament with the winner moving on to the next round and the loser being eliminated. Best episode was certainly the master Rick Clunn taking on Kevin Van Dam. Great format, big names, awesome show. Quote
basser89 Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Hey Madhouse, Saw it for the first time over this past weekend. It was Ike and the G-man. I really liked the format and wish I had that channel here at home! Wish I could have seen KVD and Clunn go head to head! Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Man, I wish we had that here. I've never seen it. Quote
basser89 Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Hey LBH, Not positive, but pretty sure it was on OLN if that helps. Quote
CJ Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 It was filmed on my home lake(Kentucky). It aired on The Outdoor Channel. All they are showing now is the re-runs.It was coming on Monday nights at 7:00 or 7:30 central time.I got a chance to see Clunn and Braurer on the lake thru binoculars.Braurer was fishing one of my spots, but I didn't say nothing to him,he's big!LOL!Clunn won the match between him and KVD.I'll tell you who won it all if you want me to. Quote
basser89 Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Hey CJ, It's very safe to say I won't see them all. Shoot me a PM, so you don't spoil it for some one! Quote
Upnorth Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Its a great show, but that guy dressed in a refs uniform is cheezy. Quote
CJ Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 And his whistle got on my nerves. It's a wonder the Coast Guard didn't come to it! LOL Quote
Nick_Barr Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I have it on the Outdoor Channel, i Love it, its awesome!! Quote
sodaksker Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I was one who got hooked on this show. It was great head to head competition that was a great format for finding a bass fishing champion. The winner was truly versatile and won some of his matches, including the final from the back of the boat which was a testament to his versatitlity. Of the matches I saw, all the constestants were true gentlemen as well. Great show. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted January 4, 2006 Super User Posted January 4, 2006 I watched the show that featured Iaconelli vs. Swindle, where Mike blew Gerald away. I really enjoyed that, because after Gerald's performance with Zell Rowland under the Gerald Swindle Bridge, I felt that was poetic justice. I also watched the end segment of another show that I probably misconstrued. It was Clunn versus someone I didn't recognize (it wasn't VanDam) Toward the end of the show I thought I heard Clunn mumble something to the effect that the other guy should concede, because he didn't want to bother finishing the match. If someone watched that entire shoot, maybe you could fill me in. I hope I'm wrong, because if what I heard is true, that would not speak too highly of Clunn. (Ain't over till it's over) Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 In the championship match(I won't say who) both anglers agreed that there was no need to fish the 4th qrt. because one was up so much.An Icon of bassin' basiclly conceded the match.(pretty sure it was the championship match). Quote
kbj3579 Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I loved the show. Great format. That's the kind of thing I want to see more of. By the way have you all heard about the new show that's coming on the Bass Block on ESPN2. It's going to be like the article a day on the lake, except they will be pitting a pro against a local angler. That sounds pretty cool too. Looking forward to seeing it. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted January 4, 2006 Super User Posted January 4, 2006 The back seater was in the lead, and when the 4qrt came, and the back seater got boat control, he went to deep water in the middle of the lake to play defense. No way the back seater could catch up fishing in dead waters as he thought. It has to be on something else other than OLN also, cause I watch it and don't have OLN. Quote

(Ain't over till it's over) I saw that match. It was Clunn vs. Bagley. Bagley was a big fat cry baby :'( . During the last quater he just folded his arms and pouted while Clunn fished. Hell, I would have fished anyway just to have a good time. I also saw the Ike Vs. Swindle show too. It was pretty good. They looked like they had a lot of fun. They were trash talking and teasing each other the entire time. At one point Ike catches a dink and looks it in the face and says "Little fish, you go back there and tell Swindle to quit fouling". It was like watching a hyperactive kid eat candy. I was laughing through the whole show. Quote
CJ Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 The back seater was in the lead, and when the 4qrt came, and the back seater got boat control, he went to deep water in the middle of the lake to play defense. No way the back seater could catch up fishing in dead waters as he thought. It has to be on something else other than OLN also, cause I watch it and don't have OLN. It was on Outdoor Channel, the network produced it.Dean Rojas was the angler who started playing defense by pulling out in the middle of the bays.Being a local from Kentucky Lake,I don't think that was smart. There is alot and I mean alot of brushpiles that have been put out by crappie fisherman in the middle of the lake.A big worm or jig could have gotten them the big bite.As far as conceeding,it was really up to the guy who would have been fishing from the back of the boat.Another thing don't look down on Clunn for anything about that tournament.Did anybody see what Braurer did to him.Clunn hooked a keeper out of some bush and Braurer turn the trolling motor on high and took off, causing Clunn to lose his catch.I seen this incident live, although I didn't really know what had happened until I saw the show.I'm not sure about Bagley but Clunn decided not to finish against Mann Jr. with only 15 minutes left.Mann Jr. thanked him for fishing it out that long.It was a close match and the fishing was good that day,it would have only taken one bite for Mannn Jr. to win.Match fishing to me is different than a regular tournament. The pros weren't out for the prestige. They were out for the $$$. Cajun1977 Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 yeah rojas was a puss he actually pulled out in the middle on two different people i thought the show was great im just tired of waiting for the new contestants joe thomas is an okay host for the show but i think they could find someone with a little bit more personality maybe zona and kumar lol Quote
Madhouse27 Posted January 5, 2006 Author Posted January 5, 2006 Rolo, I agree with you regarding Swindle's behavior with Zell Rowland. Did he buy that bridge or was he just renting it out. It's the type of nonsense that can take you off your game. I was glad to see Zell shake it off and fish strong for a well deserved victory. Zell was looking sharp in his Skeeter jacket and hat while being made to fish out of that Triton. Quote
Papa_Tom Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Watched it all the way thru both times it has ran on TOC. Recognized several places from Ky Lake--close to where I also fish. Liked it. Quote
BassinSoldier Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Clunn cleaned house on that one!!! Especially the final macth...he skunked Schultz and caught some hawgs too! Quote
Super User RoLo Posted January 5, 2006 Super User Posted January 5, 2006 MadHouse The public is pretty wise and I doubt that Swindle understands what his behavior cost him. He put himself down while simultaneously elevating Zell Rowland to new found heights. Swindle is a newbie with less than 100 tourneys under his belt. Moreover, with his mediocre track record there's very little room for hero worship. For instance, compare Swindle's track record to that of Iaconnell's, another newbie Top 10 Finishes Top 20 Finishes Iaconelli 27% 43% Swindle 18% 33% In all fairness, Swindle was a very graceful loser on the Match Fishing show, when Iaconelli force-fed him humble pie. Then again, what choice did Swindle really have? Quote
