Super User 5bass Posted January 4, 2006 Super User Posted January 4, 2006 I think its because people disguise their snagging technique as drop-shotting.I could be wrongbut thought I had heard something like that before. Quote
rocknfish9001 Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Dropshotting WAS illegal in michigan until just a couple of days ago. It was illegal because people would use it to snag salmon and steelhead in the rivers. So they made a rule that said no hook could be above the weight on a line. We got around this by using a jig instead of a weight on a dropshot rig. It is currently legal for the upcoming season. Another rule was that you were not allowed to catch a bass before the 3rd saturday in june. You were supposed to cut it off or unhook it still IN the water (too many people keeping bass before the start of season). That has also been changed and you can catch and release begining April 29, which is close to ice-out around here. That rule really wasn't advertised or enforced very well. Dropshotting is still illegal in river and streams where salmon run. Quote
KYbass1276 Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 thanks for the info that I'm glad to see they changed it for you guys Quote
bassdocktor Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 There was also another option if you wanted to fish the dropshot. They allowed it if a special leader was first tied to attach the hook to the line. I'm pretty sure that was the way. That was the way people were told to fish the dropshot in Michigan. bassdocktor Quote
basser89 Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I got your back on that one bassdocktor! I saw that exact rig in an OLD issue of Bassmaster. If memory serves me right, they tied a 4-6" leader (above the weight) and attached the hook to it. I think they even mentioned putting bee's wax on that leader to help keep the lure out to the side and not just dangle down. Quote
bassdocktor Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 basser89 I know that is one of the places that I saw it. I know after that was in the magazine I saw the picture of it appear in a few of the stores. Quote
