I'm a Mechanical Engineering Junior at Virginia Tech and our spring break is coming up in March.  I'm looking for ideas for a multiple day trip for Bass fishing and wanted to hear what kind of ideas are out there.  Are there places to rent a cabin on a good lake?  What states on the East Coast would have some prime bass fishing in March.  Any and all ideas are welcome.

The smallmouth bite was great again on the New River this year.  Nothing like walking out of Thermodynamics at 11:00am and being on the water by noon.

March 4-12, so pretty early.  I figured I would have to head a little south to hit water temps a lit closer to the 50s.

Thanks for the welcome, I've been a silent stalker of these forums for a few weeks now.  There are some really experienced people here.

I'm headed to the Everglades for a 7 day canoe trip.  7 days paddling, 6 nights sleeping on platforms above the water.  I'm hoping to get some fishing in, but I don't really have many details yet...if I wasn't headed there, I'd probably be headed to Lake Fork or Denver (SKIING!)...

Think about Kerr Lake (Buggs Island).  It's not too far from VA Tech, just down on the VA and NC border, and is great in March.  The good thing about it is that if you aren't catching anything on Kerr you can ride about 30 minutes and be on Lake Gaston.  One or the other are normally on.  You'll need a boat for either, do you have one?  Good luck!

Come on guys, March 25-29th, come on down to Lake Fork with a few more of the BRG forums guys.  The more that comes down, the better.   Think about it, and if you guys need a little help, I might be able to assit you.  A little forum tourney in the works.

Every Spring Break we go down to Florida and fish the canals from a 14ft. jon boat, specifically West Palm Beach in the Mid-eastern part of the state. It's just awesome to be fishing a 30 foot wide canal and be hauling in 6 lbers.

I see you're attending VT are you a VA native? I am currently living in Mechanicsville, VA

oh and welcome to the forum

I always take a trip to Guntersville in Alabama in late March or early April.  Depending on the weather, water temps could be in the low 50s come March (although not last year, Brrrr)  Oh, sorry to see the Hokies drop that last second game to Duke, I was pulling for them.

Thanks for all the great ideas.  After some research of my own and the input of a lot of you guys, I want to start putting together plans for a multiple day trip down to either Georgia or Florida.  Any specific information on past trips down to either for bass fishing are greatly appreciated.

As far as what I'm looking to do; I want to take my oversized john boat down there with a trolling motor and just hunt for big largemouth bass.  I am not looking to do any salt/brackish water fishing, and I wouldn't mind getting a better understand of the alligator situation down there either.

Our poor hokies had some heart breakers this season, hopefully we can put together a strong bowl game against Louisville.

A: Gators are frightened by people and boats so don't worry about them

B: Plan carefully as wind is an issue that time of the year and your equipment isn't going to handle open waters. Look for a lake that has plenty of coves and such so that you can be out of the wind.

There will be outstanding opportunities to fish I would imagine. Who's the outfitter? I have caught some huge bass out there. Bring plenty of bug spray as the mosquitoes can be something else. Are you launching from the east coast or the west coast?

I would come down to South Florida. You can kill two birds with one stone (Largemouths and Peacocks). If you've never caught a Peacock, you are in  for the fight of your life. Peacock fishing is a must do. Good luck on your trip and have fun.
