Golf course ponds are probably one of my favorite freshwater fishing locations. The local municipal is about a three minute drive for me, and I have had no problems, even fishing in the middle of the day. Also I know a back road that takes you right to the pond.

Unfortunately I am not the only one that knows. Littering, fishing pressure, and constant drastically changing water levels have taken a toll. But the are still some monsters in there. My biggest bass came out of there.

Now the local country club is another story. A canal and lake system that has been flowing for over twenty five years. I have only begun to scratch the surface on that paradise, in part because fishing there is reserved for after dark and certain holidays.

How do you guys manage to get permission to fish??  There are some HUGE fish in the golf course ponds around me; I'm looking forwards to fishing them this spring (And NOT getting caught)- I'm going into Law Enforcement...an arrest would be bad!

All right, you just got to go ask the course owner you will see him in the clubhouse and he drives around in a golf cart every once and a while. Be nice to him and tell him you are a catch and release fisherman and you will not harm the fish in anyway. A little butt kissin will not hurt if he says no then try payin for a round of golf and bring your rods in a golf bag. ;)

as a retired golfer & born-again bass fisherman I can attest to the fact that most golf course ponds have lunkers in them and that most golf courses are .....let's say difficult ...... to approach. The best piece of advice I can give anybody who wants to do this is to first ascertain whether or not the course is public or private. If it is public you stand a much greater chance of fishing it. You will probably have to settle for fishing it during the last minutes of daylight though. Don't go to the club pro, go to the head greenskeeper for permission. Oh, by the way LBH, I like your style !

I used to live in Florida (Tampa and Ft Myers). While in Tampa I golfed at a place right by my townhouse (Westchase Golf Club for any locals). Anyway, while golfing I would occasionally see the same fisherman reeling in one after another at the driving range lake. I spoke with him and found out he was a friend of a person who ran it, but that they didn't give permission to anyone else  >:(

Well, It was Christmas day 2003 and all my family is in Missouri and the golf course was closed, so I gave it a shot. What a day! Nothing over 5, but tons of 'em and they all looked like footballs and all on my favorite bait: Wiggle Wart!

The thing that's cool about Florida, other than the weather, is all the water/ponds/lakes EVERYWHERE. I was so busy working I didn't get a chance to try 1/1000th of the place I would have liked to.

About 12 years ago me and buddy were staying at his folks house who lived on a course in  Caledonia, Michigan.  I think it was Candlestick or candlewick.  His folks belonged to the course and lived on one of the holes.  We took the cart out one late afternoon and went from pond to pond just hammering the fish on limited tackle and bait to choose from.  My buddy caught the biggest bass I have ever seen, my guess somewhere 6-8 pounds.  We fished unitl dark and caught a lot of fish, I'm guessing 50 or more.  the next day we played golf in the morning and went out fishing again that afternoon, after about an hour the golf course staff came out and told us "sorry" no can do.

That is some of the best fishing I have ever had.  We still talk about it.

I cannot agree more with you based on what I saw on the bus ride from Orlando International to Disney resort. We flew down to Disneyworld last June. I saw many very good looking bodies of water everywhere. They all looked like they would be loaded with bass. We even had one pond walking distance from our resort. Man I wish I would have taken a bass pole with me!!

I don't know about anyone else, but my ability to sneak into a place has suffered in adulthood. I remember just after we got married trying to sneak into a little pond outside my college town. I remember feeling so jittery while sneaking in. Before I could make two or three casts, I heard a car door shut. I high-tailed it up the bank, jumped the fence, and sped away quickly. After turning around and driving around the corner, I noticed the noise came from a utility truck. I just didn't have it anymore. I used to be able to sneak into anyplace to fish. Is that what marriage does to you? ;D

Horse pasture ponds is where it is at. Tried to get permission to fish a "local" golf course pond, closest one is about 45 minutes away, but they said no. You have got to be real quiet and stealthy when approaching farm and pasture ponds because I live out in the sticks and some of these farmers can get real trigger-happy at night. I advise you wear a Realtree Seclusion hardwoods camo shirt and MossyOak Break-up pants with a black or brown hat. Camo has saved my butt more than a few times... ;D
