rocknfish9001 Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 how big are the ponds that you fish. The ponds at our local course aren't even a casting distance wide. Quote
jmaness12 Posted August 22, 2005 Author Posted August 22, 2005 We have some meduim size ones. But there is a huge one off of number 13 that is where my buddy caught the 10 pounder!!! But there are fareley big. Quote
fishingrulz Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 yea but the you take the risk of getting K.O. by a golf ball or getting kicked off the course Quote
DDbasser Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 My buddies Uncle owns a golf course, we used to fish some of the ponds that were off the course but on the property, most were small, you couldn't quite cast across them, but they were full of bass. The best ones were two strip type ponds on the 17th hole they laid right on the fairway. We only fished those on rainy days and we caught several 6 & 7 lbers there. My brother-in-law is the caretaker of the Henryetta municiple golf course, he's been trying to get me to come fish the ponds down there but I have'nt made it there yet. Quote
Cujo Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 yall? where are you from? LOL anyway fishing golf course ponds can be fun. also good for catfish Quote
BASSMAN1301599783 Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I fish the ponds at the local golf course at night once a month or so and have almost been arrested twice! But the fishing is usally great so its worth it. Quote
bass master Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 We fish them all the time. Pre Spawn this year was awsome at a couple of the bigger golf course ponds we hit this year. Just stay out of the way. Quote
bass109 Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 I have a golf cource in my area that has a pond but i fished there and caught a 3lb largemouth bass. The golfers dont like it when you fish there though. Quote
utser Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 fishin buddy used to work at one part time, we would fish at nite when nobody was golfin. caught lots of bass no monsters but 2 to 3 pounders. Quote
paully Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 yea but the you take the risk of getting K.O. by a golf ball LMAO!!!! I have a golf course by my house and I see a pond there but I am too embarrassed to try it out. It is right by teh road and I'm not sure there are fish in there Quote
senko_77 Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 10lbs. thats nothing from a golf course. 6 & 7 are like 1/2 lb. from where i fish. the trophy club golf course of gwinnett has spit up 16 1/2 biggest. catching a 10-14 there is common. gambler, when you come down here, thats one of the places we are going. golf courses are awesome. glad you found a good one bud! Quote
ball_coach_1 Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Oh yeah, take me back to my days as a kid and we would trespass all the time to hit those golf course ponds. GREAT fishing. But getting caught and arrested ain't so great. If you ever make it to a PGA tour event, and stick around on the practice days until about everyone is off the course, you will find droves of the pros heading out fishing on the tournament site's ponds/waters. They like to fish too, and there is a reason it is worth their time to bring along the fishing gear. One other thing about why golf course waters are so good to fish (other than you are not supposed to fish them legally - anything that is illegal to fish is always awesome) is taking in consideration all of the fertilizer that goes in to golf course soil. This equals run-off, etc, etc. Lots of fertile soil AND water those golf course properties...don't think that fact doesn't have something to do with fish qualities too. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 27, 2005 Super User Posted August 27, 2005 I have asked two golf courses if I could fish their ponds and the answers were "no." Too dangerous with the golf balls flying around. Man, I bet there are some beautiful fish in those ponds, too. I am going to ask for permission to fish a Veterans Cemetary pond and hopefully it is full of nice fish. Quote
SuthernProg Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 I am going to ask for permission to fish a Veterans Cemetary pond and hopefully it is full of nice fish. They'll say no just in case there's a zombie uprising. God forbid you should be eaten and your kin would sue their ***** off. I'm a non-boater, and I'm really sick of how all our local ponds and lakes are being choked out by subdivisions and corporate headquarter buildings. I realize that don't apply to golf courses, but this was as good a place as any to vent. > Quote
senko_77 Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 sneek in there at night. no biggy. just bring a really dim flahlight, and when the cops come run like hell Quote
bowjunkie35 Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Yep, what Senko77 said. Just sneak in, and be prepared to either run or hide! Chances are, if you are quiet, you won't get caught. For those wondering about if there are fish in your golf course ponds, I would bet dollars to donuts that there are!! Try it! Quote
bass109 Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 More than likely the golf courses ponds do have big fish . I fished in a golf course and caught a big bass but the golfers told me to look that the sign that said to say in only the shallow pard of the pond because the cut of the deep part for the golfers and very shallow part for the fisherman. Its kind of dump because the shallow part is not even 2 feet deep. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 I found that if you can find which pond is used for irrigation, you can find a gold mine. First of all, they usually used the biggest or bigger ponds to drain from for irrigation. Around this time of year, many of these irrigation ponds are about 1/2 full and it's like fishing in a barrell!! A fish every cast, and you'll catch some of the same ones repeatedly. "Poaching rods" are recommended if you're fishing an elite course with security. THis rod was made from the tip of a 7weight fly rod,..works perfectly. WHat I do is find a place where you can stash the rod quick. Fish near a bush, rocks, any place where you can stick this real quick. If you get approached, stuff rod away and explain that you are late getting home so you tried cutting through the course and now you're all lost and confused cause it all looks the same at night. Definately lots of fish to be had on these golf course ponds tho! Quote
BASS_KILLER Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 i always get kicked off cuz i dont have those kinda rods and maybe its cuz i do it during the day... that might be a problem ahah Quote
senko_77 Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 yea, that seems like the problamo to me. man there are sum biggens in those golf ponds Quote
LowCountry_Lunker Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 I fish several golf course ponds in my area. I asked permission and assured them I was a catch and release fisherman. I was told I could fish in the evenings after the last tee off time. I have landed some really nice ones from the course ponds. Quote
Keepin_It_Reel Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 This is a good one :). One day i was on my way to school and i took a "sick day" and i stoped off at a local golf course pond. I brought my poles in a golf bag and a guy that worked there came up to me and asked what i was doing. I told him that i came close to hitting into this pond. Then he told me that the course was closed for the day . He took me to the club house and told me to wait for him while he got the boss. Then i realized that i had to run very quickly out the front door. ;D ;D ;D Caught some big ones that day to. 1 Quote
BASSMAN1301599783 Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 "Poaching Rod" LOL!! ;D Thats great. Quote
Axis Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 You guys speak of golf ponds, PEACH FIELD PONDS is where it is at. Its the same thing mentioned eariler, just irrigation ponds. You really can catch fish on EVERY cast. Highly illegal and you can run the risk of being shot.... but hey, you have to go where the fishing is good. (not sure this applies to many people around the country, but upstate SC is fullllll of peach fields). Most of the time there is also a pond for each field, for example a crossroad divides a field into 4 parts, more than likely there are at least 3 ponds. Wear them out on one, move to the next, so on. Just have the truck parked in a position where you can easily burnout. Quote
