chicobass Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I reading some of you fellow bass anglers posts over the past months I have noticed that some of you guys are very knowledgable and would like to ask an important question. If you had one or two books to read on LM & SM Bass, what would it be ? Quote
New Bass Man Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I know others will come along and answer. I've asked this question once and got several good suggestions. Do a search on winter reading or books. Quote
Jeff_NHBA Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 The Linder Brothers of In-Fisherman fame have a couple excellent books, one on LMB the other on SMB. I bought my copy on Large Mouth Bass at Borders. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 14, 2005 Super User Posted November 14, 2005 What Shellback said... Their smallmouth book is definitive, you don't need another. But I have a more specfic text for fishing in Tennessee which discusses every major lake and river in the state. If that interests you let me know and I'll post it later, I don't have the book here at my office. Quote
DDbasser Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Advanced Bass Fishing by John Weiss is a good one, it covers habits and habitat preferences for both LMB and SMB. It also covers techniques but it is an older book and some of the techniques are out dated although they work!!! You'll have to find a used one as this book is no longer in print. I found mine on e-bay for $6 plus shipping. Also any of KVD's books are really good I have a couple of them. You can order them from Bass Pro or some of your local tackle stores may carry them, if you have an Academy close by they carry some the KVD books. Quote
Guest avid Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 this is a good question. I bought Ikes book but it was more of an autobiography than a book on bass fishing. I'm looking forward to some of the answers for LMB Quote
CBedo Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I try to read everything I can get my hands on. Definitely, the In-Fisherman books are great. I also picked up tidbits from Roland Martin's book (101 Bass Catching Secrets), tim Tucker's two books (Secret of the Pros). I also picked up a few things from KVD's and Denny's books. I'm sure there are some other great ones, but these come to mind. Quote
scbassin Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 If you print out the fishing articles that interest you from this site & a few of the other sites you will have your book. Many of these articles are excellent & not selling something. It should keep you busy for a while. As for me I get to fish all year as we don't have severe winters, hot summers but not to bad winters. Quote
CBedo Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I've also heard that Rick Clunn's book was outstanding. It is out of print (written in 1978). I have ordered it recently. If you search the internet, you can find some used book dealers that have it. Quote
paparock Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Reading and researching are the only things I think about more than fishing because a lot of the reading and research has to do with fishing plus other fields of interest. I am a voracious reader with books from basic to very specialized as to location and/or species. I find the In-Fishemen series as great books as they cover so much in a simple easy manner to understand principles you have not come in contact with before. There is more technique specific and detailed information that can be collected on the web. I have collected the best articles on different tactics and techniques for smallmouth, largemouth, and spotted bass plus walleye, catfish, stripers and white bass. One ring binder of such articles is almost 8" thick with the other about four inches. I have devided them in lure, species, technique, location, structure, and water clarity for the areas I fish. It's fun to compare different peoples views on the same technique and tactics. It opens my thinking to different approaches I can try within a specific technique and even come up with a different approach of my own. I often do book and article searches to find new information or to find out of print and hard to find books. I transcribe the key points of books that I don't plan to keep into my own words in notebooks that allows me quick access. Quote
Nick_Barr Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 My favorite book is "Life as a Bass Pro" With joe Thomas and tim tucker. It shows you how a pro makes decisions throughout the day and year. Another good one is any In-Fisherman book Quote
Chris Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I've also heard that Rick Clunn's book was outstanding. It is out of print (written in 1978). I have ordered it recently. If you search the internet, you can find some used book dealers that have it. It is a great book also Larry Nixon has a good one and Doug Hannon, KVD otay, Most of these guys have websites that might still have copies to buy. Quote
Panamoka_Bassin Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Found a book at Wal-Mart that seems to be pretty good: The Freshwater Angler Advanced Bass Fishing. Full of all kinds of usefull info from spotting fish to rigging different lures, and each section written by a "tournament" pro, like Yelas, Zell Rowland, and Stacey King. Its a 10 year old book, but I think most of the principles still apply. Another nice feature is the pictures and directions for "customizing" certain baits. Quote
Upnorth Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 The in-fisherman series of books are loaded with info. For fun, check out Sowbelly. I just read that and thougt it was great. Quote
