What is the craziest thing that you have ever caught while fishing? I would have to say mine would be a dogfish though I almost caught a heron when it decided my spook looked like a nice meal.

Back when I was A kid, my dad was crappie fishing at night off the side of the house boat. We woke up the next morning to an awful squacking and sreaming like I have never heard. He did not remove the minnow from the hook the night before and a crow had swooped down to grab it out of the air and had hooked himself in the process. Black feathers where flying every where.

I went flyfishing with bass tackle and the fly only went only like 5 ft away and I actually caught fish.

I was fishin with a mister twister and got a hit and I thought I missed it but when I reeled in alls was left was some baby bass lips I can't believe I caught just the lips... poor fish.

Craziest thing I caught to date is a a bowfin, I caught it this past summer on a berkely crawworm. Thing hit like a ton of bricks problay went about 4 lbs. Those things have some chompers on em.

I also caught a bowfin on a senko style worm.He hit it as soon as it hit water in lillypads.. They pack a good punch.. Caught a drum on a spinnerbait...

bullfrogs on topwater lures & turtles on bacon

Catching feathers is pretty odd. So far:  one owl, 2 mallards, 2 sea gulls.  Only bird below the surface was almost a loon. They seem to love chartreuse spinnerbaits, but they can't quite catch up to one ripped back to the boat with a 6:1 baitcaster.

Don't like reptiles but also got two water snakes. Thankfully, gators don't live this far north.

A bowfin aka dogg fish aka mud fish aka grennel is a very common occurence on the Mississippi River  in this area. So are big drumm.

But the oddest thing i have ever herd of being caught up this way was an aligator from pool 18 or 19 it was in a net.

The oddest thing i have ever caught was a catfish carcus. Or a stringer with 1 dead rotting cat fish one that was on its last leggs and one that was alive as can be still atached.

Caught a 2" bass once...also a bullfrog on a senko...had those underwater birds follow alot of my lures, and Ive had my share of turtles. Also seen a turtle attack a little Pumpkinseed before, funny to watch.

Off topic, but Ive hooked myself in the lip while fly fishing. So I guess you could say I caught myself, and thats a wacky catch.  ;)  ;D

Well it wasn't me but it was on my boat. Myself and a client were going around an island on the river and there was an eddy on the bottom end we wanted to fish. There was a Canada goose in the eddy and I told the client to cast at least 10ft to the left of it so  the jig wouldn't hit the bird. The client did as I asked but when he cast his jig the goose took off at the same time and the darn jig spun around the base of it's wing. The bird is flying up and away, the reel drag is screaming. The Bird's about a hundred foot up in the air and winning the battle. The client yells "what do I do?". I said tighten the drag! He does that and the bird stalls in the air like a kite , the line breaks and the jig falls out of the sky. The client turns and looks at me all serious and says" where were you with the net"

i was walleye fishing one time and set the hook and was reeling in something, not sure what, it sorta just glided right in. At the same time my buddy set the hook and he was reeling something in and we both caught the 2 biggest turtles ive ever seen. The turtles had shells with about a 3 foot diamter. It was just crazy.

Another time i was fishing up in canada and i was reeling in a perch and a muskie or northen bit it and i ended up reeling in a perch head.

this summer i was dockfishing and i had about a 10inch bass on and i was reeling it in when all of a sudden a 35-40" northern attacked it, it bit it like 3 times and i was reeling the northern in until it was next to the boat and it got off, pretty crazy.

Well, I was fishing at night on a little 2 acre lake.  I threw my baby 1 minus out and felt a strike immediately--IN THE AIR.  When I reeled it back in and something was flopping around on the top of the water.  When I got it in, much to my horror, it was a bat.  That's right the little vampire hit my crankbait in the air.  Needless to say, that was one crankbait I gladly cut off and let go.

I decided to have a little fun ang go carp fishing with my ultralite gear. I ended up catching the world record goldfish

I've caught 2 snapping turtles to date, they really seem to love corn.

Also caught a few seagulls, they love to hit minnows in mid-cast when we pier fish in the spring.

Weirdest thing I ever caught would be a bumper off an F-150 (no idea how I actually horsed it up to the boat) and a wallet with nothing in it except $50!

While trout fishing a mountain lake with inline spinners I foul hooked a rainbow and reeled in only the eye.  I've been watching for one with a patch ever since.

Ok, ok.  ;)

Picture a dock that connects to land via a small ramp.  Right next to the dock, next to the first piling in about 8" of water, a bed with a big bass on it.

I approach carefully, slowly... spinning rod in hand... ready to toss the tube bait on the bed.

In a moment of brilliance, I think "Hey, if I cast it on the shore first, then drag it into the water, I won't spook the bass."

So, I deftly pitch the lure on the bank at the waters' edge...

Suddenly, without warning, a cat leaps out from under the dock's ramp and pounces on the lure!

"Where'd he come from?!" I said to myself, "I never saw him!"

Somehow, I didn't set the hook or try to jerk the lure away (maybe because I was just too stunned).  But that was a good thing, because such a move would surely impale the cat.  As it stood, he simply was on it, but not hooked (thank God!)

So I waited...

the cat waited for it to move....

I waited....

He waited...

I waited...

and waited....

Finally the cat began to show signs of boredom...

He sat up, but kept his paw on the lure.

Dang!....   c'mon... just lift the paw...  just for a second, that's all I need to whip that baby outta there...

I could feel the sweat beads on my forehead begin to drip.

I tried calling him, making a noise, trying to distract him.

Well, that did it.  He decided to leave. But...not without the lure!  He quickly picked up the lure in his mouth and started trotting off towards the house!!!

I quickly flip the bail open, hoping he'd stop.

Nope... he keeps going!

Now he's headed around the side of the house, proudly carrying his catch!

I grab my line clippers, frantically yank off a bunch of line and clip it off.

He's gone around the front of the house now.  All I see is the trail of line disappearing around the corner.

I have no idea what happened after that, but I bet there was one confused cat owner later that day!

Glenn that was a great story! i have a similar one but without the happy ending  :-[ I wa teaching a friend how to cast a baitcaster by casting into the lawn. As I reeled past some bushes one of my neigbors cats jumped out and hooked itself in its mouth instantly. I was using a 7in T rigged plastic worm and I never seen the cat untill it was hooked. I would not have had a hook on if i did.

Any ways that poor cat gave me one heck of a fight.

it jumped about 5 times and was hissing and making all kinds of noise. I had to get some leather gloves and wire cutters to free him. The cat did end up fine cause I seen many times afterwards but when ever it seen me it took off and it didnt come in my yard anymore.
