Guest avid Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Last week Hurricane Wilma roared through S Florida and right behind her was autumn. It's been sunseasonably cool, (high 80) dry and breezy. It's absolutely perfect weather for anything outdoors. At first the high waters and cooler temps turned off the bite. It has been picking up and today was a slaughter. The dinks were schooled up in the leeward coves. It was like shooting fish in a barrel. They hit everything. topwaters, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, worms, and jigs. It was a great day to test baits head to head. I can tell you that price and fish catching ability do not necessarily coincide. For example my wiggle wart out fished every other crank, including lucky craft and megabass. But my megabass pop x outfished every other topwater. by allot ! The bass were jumping all over it. Mostly schoolie dinks, but caught a few decent "keepers" on it too. It is soooo much fun to fish. Quote
basspro48 Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 sounds like a great day avid...now where's that 10 lber. that would make it a perfect day... ;D Hope the hurricane didn't effect you to bad. Quote
Rebbasser Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Isn't it great when you hit it just right like that? Quote

Lummer Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Hey Avid, I went fishing a few days ago up in Edgewater, FL and didnt have to much luck. I went out for about an hour and only caught three small bass under 1 lb. But that was after the hurricane had just passed and the cold front hit. I assume now with things warming up and the rain now coming, things will pick up again and that is why you had such a great day yesterday. Where are you located? Quote
Super User Raul Posted November 1, 2005 Super User Posted November 1, 2005 The wind has been blowing with gusto since Saturday :-X. Quote
Guest avid Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 I'm in Port st. Lucie. The best plastic bite, by far was the robo worm, 6" straight tail but the bekely 4" finesse worm was also very good. Oddly, the Senko bite was off. They wanted something moving pretty fast. Quote
justtrying Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 avid - fwiw - i've found when the dinks are schooling like this, you can fish the "Charlie Brewer Slider" & catch fish til you're tired & just want to go home. ...i mean, every cast, as long as you can stay near the school. try it - you'llll Liiikkkkkeeee IT! Nick_Barr Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Up here in WA the Ater temps are in the high 50's and You hit spot inbetween docks and you can catch 20 dinks in a 10 by 10 foot Square area off a dock. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted November 3, 2005 Super User Posted November 3, 2005 Man,I love the title to this thread,it's exactly whats going on at my lake.Monday afternoon, almost dark actually,I was cranking a secondary point in a creek and hooked a smallie that was about 12",and when he got beside the boat I could see about 7-8 others with him.All the same size.Threw a topwater bait(Pop-R) and caught two more 12 inchers. So while they were hittin' it,I kept on chuckin it......then my luck ran out.A big striper just flat out smashed my Pop-R,burned my drag for a few minutes, got in a brushpile, broke my line and took my Pop-R with him. > I really couldnt do much with him....I only had 10 lb line and a medium/light action crankin' rod.Why couldnt he grab my jig while I was flippin docks with my 7'6 XH rod and 50 lb Power Pro!Fall fishing where I'm at is sort of a mixed bag.......one minute your catching bass, next minute a striper is pulling your boat across the lake. Stupid stripers! ;D Quote
