stonewall Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 I have never fished with a float and fly before. Is their any one that can give me any basic tips for fishing this rig? Also what type of structure or banks should I be fishing? Quote
paparock Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Stonewall, you have come to the right place. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here. It would be good to check out the article on this site by Craig De Fronzo called "Confessions of a River Rat". Also do a web search for Float-N-Fly as there is a lot of info out there. I too am learning about this technique that I hope to practice a lot of this winter. Hope that helps some. Rocky Quote
basspro48 Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Most people use the float'n fly on big samllmouth resovoirs like Dale Hollow and Pickwick. The technique is mostly used in the winter and spring, although it can be effective in late summer. Here's a link to some float'n flies. http://www.bulletlures.com/float_fly_prod.htm Hope this helps. stonewall Posted October 26, 2005 Author Posted October 26, 2005 That helps me in the style I want to use. I plan on fishing the east Tn. lakes. (Cherokee, Norris, etc.) Quote
Guest avid Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 I don't get it. Why use a float and fly when a #8 flyrod will handle any bass your likely to encounter and will deliver the fly with precision and ease? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 27, 2005 Super User Posted October 27, 2005 avid, It's just the presentation of a suspending jig. You determine how deep you want to fish and the bobber keeps the jig there. Quote
Guest avid Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 gotcha' .. didn't realize it had such a cool sounding name. I have used this technique many times to ctach crappie. See no reason why it wouldn't work on bass as well. Quote
