Get Ice out of Guides

With winter approaching soon in St. Louis I would like to see if there is anything I can use to prevent icing of the guides when it gets colder. I have in the past used spinner because there is no reel guide but I want to keep using my casters.

wd40 on the guides keeps the ice from forming for a bit but needs to be re-applied every so often.

Same with Reel Magic, and probably Kevin Vandams Line Conditioner although I haven't tried KVD's stuff yet.

The two post above work and I have used them in the past.  If it's below 30 though, there's almost no chance you will see me out there. BRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

Drive south!

I fished the White River in early March a few years ago. We started with light rain followed by heavier rain followed by sleet followed by 6" of snow during a shore lunch. It was time to head in and sip a little whiskey. If the guides start freezing, I'm outta there!

RoadWarrior, drive south??? Why? Oh, I guess it doesn't hurt to have two different warm water discharges close by.  ;D  They are my normal wintering spots. In those areas, I'll dip the rod in the water but I will use WD40 as well and as LBH stated, you do need to reapply it every so often.

Try some fly floatant. It's a silicone grease. I use it on the first two guides on my spinning rods and it keeps the ice from sticking. The ice will still form, but will tap right out. Never tried it on a baicater. Might work. Put it on with a Q-tip. I have to agree with RW. When the ice forms on the guides it's time for a warm fire, a little Bushmills and an Avo.
