hinkaero Posted October 13, 2005 Author Posted October 13, 2005 The lake I am going to fish is not fed by any rivers/streams and usually is very clear water even after alot of rain , Does the shallow method still apply ? Quote
hinkaero Posted October 13, 2005 Author Posted October 13, 2005 Thanks , let ya know how I make out Does time of day matter ? , I plan on being on the water by 5:30 am Quote
Chris Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Start shallow and hit any cover available then if that don't pan out move out some. Buzzbait or spook if you see any fish hitting the surface. If not try a jerkbait or shallow runner and parallel the bank. Fish any cover fishing the outside of it first then turn around and drop a jig or worm in it because the fish might be super shallow in the cover. Also mess around with a slow rolling spinnerbait. Minuteman Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Sounds like good tips for the whole MidAtlantic/ NE Region. We got 8-10" of rain in 24 hours last Saturday and it's been drizzling and raining ever since. They had actually closed some boat launch areas 2 days before the rain started because the water was so low. I will be out this weekend though, I just bought a new rainsuit. Quote
Curado Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Start fishing all the newly flooded cover with spinnerbaits and jigs. Quote
Bass Hammer Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Seems like when they get up in there they like it and often times will stay until the last minute as the water goes back down. Hammer Quote
Nick_Barr Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Jigs During the Day, Spinnerbaits or cranks in morning. You can fish a Shallow Crankbait all day, thats what has worked on tour with Muddy Water. Like people Say FISH SHALLOW Quote
Redtail Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 It has been raining here off and on for over a week now. I read a tip about how to fish after and during long periods of rain. They said that during the rain the fish become more active as the water becomes more oxygenated. Especially in the Fall when they are feeding for the winter. Put the soft plastics away and use spinnerbaits and cranks. Also use topwaters if it's not raining at the time. I only caught one fish on spinnerbaits ever! I went to my private pond last Saturday (while it was raining) and used my usual senkos & Ikas. I usually kill them on those but never got a bite. Reluctantly, I tied on a white Terminator spinnerbait. I caught 7 LMB in about 40 minutes, 3 in the 2lb range, which in 40 minutes is some fun fishin! During that time I caught 3 on 3 consecutive casts. Went back again last night for a half hour (in the rain) and got 3 on a black spinnerbait with a Yamamoto twin tail grug as a trailer. Was fishing in water about 4 feet deep parallel to the banks. Give it a try and good luck! Quote
Panamoka_Bassin Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Put the soft plastics away and use spinnerbaits and cranks. Also use topwaters if it's not raining at the time. I've been using a olive green tube bait along the lillies in my pond (with and without weight depending on the wind) and the bass have been slamming them. I wouldn't know if this is just because these fish have become more active and are eating everything in sight, or is it just the right rig for the pond. Been trying a Heddon Tiny Torpedo and a couple little jitterbugs with less than inspiring results, but the Hula Popper seems to work well in low light. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 hey here in northeast PA when it rains I break out the purple 6' floating worms and hit as much structure along the shore as posible. My logic is the rain is washing in worms and thats what they are feedin on, this has been highly successful for me. My partner does the same thing with lizards and also does prety good Quote
hinkaero Posted October 17, 2005 Author Posted October 17, 2005 Fished from 5:30 am to 11:30 am , caught 13 fish , largest 4 pound , All were quality, All caught on 1/2 ounce white spinnerbait , tandem willow leaf blades, red trailer hook Quote
DePoy79 Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 fish areas that before the rain , weren't under water, but now are, fish will congregate to new underwater areas Quote
Yankee_Bassman Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Fishing in the downpours last Sunday in New Hampshire;fish were hitting chartreuse spinnerbait in/around pockets in the newly flooded shoreline brush. I caught two when I threw the spinnerbait onto shore adjacent to some flooded blueberry bushes, dragged it into the water, and got instant hits in 4-6" depth. First time I've had a consistent spinnerbait bite this fall, although everyone is telling me they're killing them on SB's...... Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 We had 11 inches of rain in 2 days in North East PA this weekend. I went out Tues and Fished shallow using 2 rigs. A 6 in manns jelly worm ( Purple) T rigges weightless and a 6 inch Zoom Swamp Crawler(Green) and caught a mess of fish in 4 hours Not one monster but at least 4 keepers (15 inch on this lake) threw em all back. Caught more with the t rig than the wacky rig Quote
Guest avid Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 I like swimming a fluke or trick worm in the newly flooded areas. Quote
