setting my tackle box or boxes up

How do y'all set up your tackle boxes? do you have one tackle box for just plastics, and one for hard baits etc?

I am origionally from Illinois about 45 min from Plano Molding so I go there to get most of my tackle boxes. I picked up a "factory second" Plano® 7592 Guide Elite StowAway Tackle Box

paid a whopping 18.50 for it.

I also pick up 5 or six of the smaller stow aways for in the top for my hooks, sinkers, some scum frogs, and a couple of hard baits, the bottom BIG stowaways are getting rapidly filled with different colors of my "confidence"bait the berkley power worm and other soft baits ie some horny toads and some lizzards... should I continue doing this? or should I use another bag I have that has 4 smaller stow aways exclusively for my softs which would free up the lower cases... I am sure I would fill up this smaller bag FAST if not have enough to fill it now!... I don't want to carry 4 different tackle boxes with me to the lake but if I want to catch fish I have to take as much as I can without swamping the boat.

just  give me some ideas on how you guys pack for the lake.

Personally I keep my soft plastics in the original bags. I keep the ones I use the most in a binder and the rest I keep in 1 gallon Zip lock bags. I separate the Zip locks by type.

I keep my hooks, sinkers, and other terminal tackle in Plano 3771s.

I separate my crankbaits by how deep they run. Each box has a depth range written on it.

Now I have three or four empty boxes that I use when someone asks me to go fishing with them. I do a little research and in a few hours can have a couple of them packed with a variety of lures that might work that day. I keep one binder packed with my "go to" soft plastics at all time. This way I can limit how much space I take up in someone elses boat.

yes I keep all my soft baits in the origional bags.. that way I know what they are faster ie a 7in worm as opposed to the 10in and all that stuff...

Binder sounds like an interesting idea.. but what kind of binder? I don't think I have ever seen anything like that.

the only real place I have for tackle is a fleet and farm and wally world... have a Gander Mountain about a 1/2 hour away and a Scheels about an hour away.

OK thanks... its kinda sorta similar but not similar to what I have now... what I have will work.. so my "wish list" on BPS won't grow past the 20 items I have on it now  ;D

I use a BPS binder for all soft plastics.

In there I keep hooks, weights, and split rings.

I keep everything c-rig in a 3600.

My cranks are divided by depth into seperate 3700 boxes.

I also have seperate 3700s for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, rattletraps, topwater, jerkbaits, etc.

Al, I keep my soft plastics in a BPS-type binder, but I do not use the ring system that comes with it.  I can fit more in the binder not using the rings ;D.

For cranks, I use 3600s.  A bunch of them ;D.

I've recently started using the Falcon Tackle Organizer ( FTO ) system.

The molded boxes are lure specific and they have a worm bag thats advertised to hold 25 bags of plastics but I've got 35 bags in mine.

The draw back is price, it is kind of high for the full system it'll run you around $100.00

But it's well worth it for being able to keep your tackle well organized.

thanks for all the input... sorry I didn't thank you all earlier.. I have been out of town since Thurs. I think I have a handle.. I was doing it pretty well.. need to rearrange a bit but nothing drastic

another thing you can do, is punh holes in the bag using a 3-hole punch, then putting them into a regular zip up, strechable school binder.

I have been using the 8.5" x 11" Shimano Monster worm binder for my soft plastics.  It zips closed and has storage pockets for hooks, weights and other terminal tackle.  I leave the plastics in their original bags and put them in the zip bags in the binder.  Everything is easy to see and find.  I like it a lot and it is real easy to organize.  It also came with extra bags.  I think Shimano changed the name to Baraja Tackle binder.

I have used worm binders in the past and they work great if it is your boat, but if you have to pack light as a non-boater in a tournament, I like to thin them down a bit.  

Instead, I have started using the Plano 3730 (or 80, can't remember) boxes.  They are taller than the regular 3700s so you can put whole worm bags in the box.  Just put in what I need, and throw it in my carry case.  Usually you can split the dividers in two, but if you're fishing big worms it might be more of like 2/3 or 3/4.  This is fine, since yo can put hooks, sinkers, beads, scent, or whatever else you might need in the smaller spots.

I carry a couple of soft plastic boxes, and a couple of hard bait 3700s, and then throw in one spinnerbait wallet, and I'm usually good to go.

I use an Ockeechobie Fats bag and love it. I have about 6 Plano trays split about 50/50 with cranks and minnow baits, then critter baits, jigs and frogs. I use the worm bags inside the top flap for my fave plastics, then have a Quantum Worm binder inside. I also have a Berkley Spinnerwrap prototype that slides into a mesh catch-all in the back. Side pockets carry smaller boxes forterminal tackle, scents, pliers, etc etc. I love da Fats.

I like using different models of 3700 size boxes. I carry a soft pack that fits several of them plus a spinnerbait box. I fill different boxes with lipped cranks, others with lipless cranks, others with various soft plastics, topwaters, etc. For most situations I am familiar with the water and I already know which few boxes I want to carry. If I travel I will take a wide variety and after a look at the water I know what I will feel be throwing and will load those boxes into the pack. It is an efficient system for many people and one that that has worked well for me since I decided I didn't need to carry enough tackle to stock a sporting goods store. If you fish tournaments as a non-boater the guy you fish with will also appreciate it.

I use a two system approach.  all my soft baits go into a Shimano baltica tackle bag that has 5 utility boxes and grea pockets and little storage areas.  All my hard baits go into my plano tackle box.  I think it's a 7100.  Any way. this system is working out real well for me right now.  I can carry plenty of coo stuff yet it won't fit everything I own.
