Anyone familiar with this scene?  You find yourself a nice, little cove, and, boy, the bass are biting!  Just as you set the hook on your seventh or eigth bass, you hear it.  The ever-so-familiar hum of another boat headed your way.  And then, who comes around the corner?  A freaking squad of jet skis, or someone pulling a skier, or wakeboarder.  Whoopin' and hollerin' with total disregard for your once quiet honey hole and whoever the hell is in it.  And, oh yes, they do see you fishing in there, but do they care?  Absolutely not.  It's probably happened to all of us, but I would like to hear about.  Anyone with a funny, annoying, or memorable "nuisance" story, send 'em in!  Let's hear 'em.   ;D

This is my best story:

I was fishing near some docks when a 20'+ jet boat pulling two skiers blew right in front of me at full speed. Unfortunately for him, the jet intake sucked up my line, all of my line, maybe 200 yards or more. These guys made it out into the lake maybe a half mile or so before coming to a complete halt. No paddle, no other boats in sight and no one but me to help.

Well, I happen to have another rod all ready to go, so I went right back at it. After an hour or so they were still stranded and I moved on. I never knew what became of that boat and those jerks.

Here in Michigan theyare supose to give you space and not come to close.

Tritonman and myself have thrown baits towards them and hoping NOT to hook them, but let them know we are not pleased with what they are doing...that seems to work... ;D  But we have thought about bringing just a rod with a 1oz weight attached to the end and just wing it at them and hope the HIT them anywhere it lands.

Forgive me FATHER for these terrible thoughts....lol....please feed the starving pigmies...lol

I had a friend of mine that had a jetskier making a video  jumping over waves and such, he wasnt watching and almost ran into my friend boat, the skiers didnt even say a thing, so he tok his crankbait, and whipped a long cast  and took the jetskier right off his jetski!!! then turned on the yamaha 250 and jetted outta their before they even new what hit'em/ Also i had a 22 foot wakeboarding boat making BARGE Waves at my little 12 footer and almost fell outta my boat, he was going inbetween me and shore when i was fish a drop-off. So i saw his same boat and same guy in his yard out on the lake so i fished his dock extensively, then ticked him off when i threw a jig close to his boat, he yelled at me so i just kept almost hitting his boat with my jig fish the boat lift, then i caught a fish off of it and had to get it off the boat lift and my boat slightly touched his boat and he came down swaring at me mad as hell, i told him that if he showed me some respect out on the water then i would show some respect for him and his boat and he was even madder and i just drove away. The look on his face was unforgettable ;D

I know this is a sore topic for many fisherman but I still have to take the side that says they are entitled to use the water just as much as we are.  Etiquette is etiquette whether it's another fisherman or a jet ski,.  I firmly believe that most of the people who cross the line simply don't know they are messing us all up.

I choose to educate them and ask if they could show some consideraton in the future now that they've been educated.

NOT DEFENDING JERKS HERE!

A jerk is a  jerk, but for instances like roadwarrior had, just goes to show that it all washes in the end.

Have to agree with LBH here.  My buddy has a place down at the Lake of the Ozarks and I enjoy riding a jet ski around and cruising around on my buddy's big cruiser.  We as fisherman also have to be smart.  You have to realize that the lakes on holiday weekends are going to be extremely crowded with lots of big boat traffic including the ever little pesky jet skiers.  What I do on holiday weekends or summer weekends in general for that matter at the Lake of the Ozarks is fish from sun up to about 10:00 am.  After that the lake is pretty much fair game and if you want to still fish you are just going to have to live with the traffic and big wakes.

That being said .............. boaters and jet skiers still should keep their distance, especially in coves.   In RW case, they deserve what they got.

But I see guys fishing on main lake points on the 4th of July in the middle of the day on the Lake of the O all the time.  They seem to give all the hundreds of boats that go by the evil eye.  That's just ignorance.  You can't tell me they didn't expect that.

I have had plenty of skiers and jet skiers run over me and I have also had fishermen come right in on top of me when seemingly we were the only two people on the lake. I have even had fishermen shut down right in front of my duck blind and start casting in my decoy spread. Rudeness and inconsideration isn't limited to any group.

I totally understand that we have to share the waters with everyone, but SOME people are just, straight-up RUDE!  I mean, they have a WHOLE ENTIRE LAKE to ski/jet ski in, and they have to do it RIGHT where you are fishing.  Now THAT is rude, if you ask me.  You can't catch bass everywhere in the lake, but you can boat and jet ski everywhere in the lake.  Especially when you're in a little cove, and they come horning in.  It makes the banks muddy, and the water choppy.  You might be able to switch to a rattle trap, or chartreuse spinnerbait, but that's not the point.  It's the dis-respect factor that REALLY comes into play.  After all, if you were a jet skier, and a basser.......wouldn't you give the fisherman a little space?   :-/

I Agree with LBH, But as i said in my earlier comment these guys went to do it intentionally or just were not considerate, I have talked to some jet skiers on my lake and they respect us fisherman, Since only yell at true Jerks, I have had some guys slow down when they come past and i say hi and then when they are a good distance away they go on again.

Be thankful you get to share the water with them.  In the So Cal. lakes in San Diego County,  some of the water is only open to skiers only on certain days and fishing on other days.  Great fishing, bad rules!!!!  Imagine only being allowed on water from sun up till sun down and having to pay a day permit and launch fee every time you fish. Always wondering what a night bite would be like.  Only allowed to fish with one rod, most catfishermen would go nuts with only one rod.  Thats So. Cal.

You can buy a "Second Rod" stamp for the back of your licence for ten bucks.

I only go to the lakes that are fishing only.... Sutherland, Henshaw, Jennings, Cuyamaca, Poway.... to name a few. Its always quiet and 90% of the other boaters have as much respect and consideration as you give to them.

well, thats what fishin is like for me here in NC.  well, the 3 local lakes are closed at 7:30, and open around 7 I think.  the main one I fish, only allows their boats on the water, so you have to rent a boat in order to fish, and the only other place to fish along the bank is on their dock.

It seems to be getting better now, but a couple years ago there were jet skies and party boats all over Cedar Bluff a lake in western Kansas. The thing was Cedar Bluff was a man made lake and the whole lake is covered with trees, which made it a great bass fishing lake. I could never understand why jet skiers wanted to go to lake with so many hazards, one wrong move and you could become a human shish kabob.

Had a ski boat full of drunks zipping up and down the lake making life miserable for all the fishermen. It started getting out of the skiing area.I was in the middle of what looked like deep water(a gigantic 20-30 acre flat). These bozos didn't realize it averaged about 3 feet deep...and littered with stumps, heh, heh!Well they hit the flat at what looked to be full throttle.Yep;you guessed it.They hit a stump, came to a complete stop, and knocked 4-5 drunk teenagers into the water. It had a hole the size of garbage can lid in the side of their fancy ski boat.Nobody hurt...just stone cold sober.

On Lake Gaston at the Virginia - North Carolina border, my two friends were fishing when this college kid on a jetski came up close to them, made a lot of noise and wake, and then sped off.

About 5 minutes (or less) the kid lost control of the jetski and turned it over.

He could not turn it to the upward position and since he was NOT WEARING A LIFE VEST

...NOT WEARING A LIFE VEST (shame, shame) he was holding on for dear life and sinking fast.

So, my two friends motored over, picked him up (he was totally exhausted), righted the jetski and towed both back to his parents home on the lake.

The kid was very thankful, and lucky.

My buddies dropped him off on his dock and just melted into the afternoon to continue fishing.

I was fishin in the back of a long cove one evening and saw a jet ski coming right at me. I keep watching as it got closer and closer and to my surprise it was some chick totally naked. She threw a big wake at me as she turned around a few feet from my boat and all I saw as she drove away was the full moon. I was ticked off, shocked and excited all at the same time. I keep waiting for her to come back but she never did.
