Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Anybody tag their fish? Kevthebassman left this link in another post. I think I'm going to give it a try I've fished the same place for 20 yrs and would love the data you could get from tagging. Plus maybe, if someone catches a 4 or 5 and it has a tag in it, they will let it go. We need tags that say "please release" and a serial number. http://www.fishunlimited.org/ProgramsTagging.shtml Quote
LONGEARS Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 What a interesting concept.I think it would be great to track the fish you have caught over time.Perhaps a e'mail address so people could let you know about the fish? Quote
nwgabassmaster Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Yeah, it would be cool, but I do not think that it would be a great idea, unless you are trained by a certified tagger. A lot of folks tag their fish with the best intentions, but, they end up injuring the fish, or even killing the fish. So, that's why I just leave the tagging to the professionals. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted September 23, 2005 BassResource.com Administrator Posted September 23, 2005 Wouldn't it be fun if we could tag our ex girlfriends & wives with tags that say "Warning: Release Immediately!" Just a thought. : Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 23, 2005 Author Posted September 23, 2005 The few different tagging sites explain how and where to tag the fish. Doesn't seem very evasive and we've caught stripers with tags as old as 7 yrs. I want to research it more, for example, I found a company that lets you pick what's printed on the tag but minimum orders might be large I'm thinking (email sent). If I had some that just said,"research fish\do not harvest", and a #, then maybe I can split the cost with some of you guys or a couple local clubs maybe to place an order. We'll see Glenn, contact local legislator, some ideas are born to be laws. ;D Quote

Just a thought. : Glenn, I have a few that I would DEFINETLY do that too. There is one that I would put a tag on that says, "If you have touched her, say goodbye to any part of your body that came into contact with her, cause in less than 5 mins, it will fall off." ;D Man, I'm wicked mean! DDbasser Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Wouldn't it be fun if we could tag our ex girlfriends & wives with tags that say "Warning: Release Immediately!" Just a thought. : Oh man!!!! no thats harsh!!! LOL LBH, that is a neat idea. I never thought about tagging bass. Here in Ok, they have tagged a bunch of spoonbill (paddlefish) in order to track their movements. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 23, 2005 Super User Posted September 23, 2005 Wife tag: "Warning: Release Immediately, Upkeep Can Be Hazardous To Your Wealth" Quote
Nick Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 This thread is getting a little bit disturbing. Even in jest some refer to women as property in that we have the right to tag them like cattle. "I'll tag that 8 pointer in the meadow and the blonde in the corner!" the neanderthal declared. "That way I'll own her, too." Do we really want to go here? Let's get a little bit more civilized, gents. Back to fishing, Glen. Quote
Madhouse27 Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 Tonight on the evening news "Can bass fishing and political correctness co-exist?" They seem like strange bedfellows but our panel of experts will conduct a complete investigation. Stay tuned folks. Quote
Phishn_Phool Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 BTW...I don't know about the legality of tagging women, but I do know that in some states it is illegal to tag bass. Better check the local laws in your states. CPR ;D Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 I tag my fish once in a while then they tag me and Im it :o Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 24, 2005 Author Posted September 24, 2005 yea, I didn't think about the legal aspects. I'm definately looking into it though. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted September 28, 2005 Super User Posted September 28, 2005 June 2004 Toledo Bend Tournament, La. SRA (sabine river authority) honors fishermen who have caught a 10lber with a free replica for the year. They tag those fish. The story of 2 fish. The first fish was caught at six mile creek and the other Housen Bay. The six mile bass is released approx. 20 miles from where caught and is caught 3 weeks later during spawn one mile from where originally caught. The second was released at the same spot as all others. It was caught five weeks later a quarter mile from where it was originally caught, It travelled about 15 miles to get to its home waters. That goes to show that big fish are territorial and will home in the same waters its whole life if conditions are met for its survival. We could learn a lot if we could somehow post web sites for different waters to post the info on tagged fish. Originally tagged on date, length, markings, weight and what it bit. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted September 28, 2005 Super User Posted September 28, 2005 I looked it up on the net. It was the La fish and game and the area Toledo Bend Lake area Merchants who supports the program. Quote
