basser89 Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Hey All! First off, I've made my decsion about Berkley Transition line, IT SUCKS! I've lost 3 spinnerbaits in the past two days (they all broke off on the cast)! I had two spinnerbaits with a translucent skirt. Problem is I picked them up at a fishing expo and can't remember who made them. These were great baits for fishing the clearer impoundments I fish from time to time. Can anyone tell me who sells spinnerbaits with a clear/translucent skirt? I've searched the web some this morning but can't seem to find the right one. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Super User Raul Posted September 16, 2005 Super User Posted September 16, 2005 BPS branded spinnerbaits are clear translucent with very small gold metalflake. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted September 16, 2005 Super User Posted September 16, 2005 Terminator has replacement skirts like you want. Quote
basser89 Posted September 16, 2005 Author Posted September 16, 2005 Thanks Raul and Matt! Any other info is greatly appreciated! Quote
Bass Hammer Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 I agree with the transition line sucking. Hammer Quote
basspro48 Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 Try berkley vanish, its cheaper than transition and its just as sensitive. Hope this helps. Quote
basser89 Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 Hey BassPro, Thanks for the input! I had Vanish on that rod before. When it came time to respool, the local stores were out of 14# test (not sure how that happened?). They had the transition so I figured I'd test it out. I never thought it would that weak of line. Went to Bass Pro Shops today and picked up my 14# Vanish! ;D That's all that will go on my spinnerbait rod for now on! Raul, I checked out the Lazer Eye series today! They were just what I was looking for! Thanks for your input as well! Now once mt War Eagle spinnerbaits come in, I'll be back to almost my full arsenal (Baitmonkey says there is alway room for ONE more spinnerbait! LOL!). Quote
Upnorth Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 If you want to use flourocarbon line then give Seaguar a try. Berkley vanish is not even in the same league as this stuff. Also, flourcarbon does not do well with many common knots such as the palomar. Try a california jam knot. It is easy to tie and solved my breaking problem. do a google search, there are instructions how to tie it. Quote
Michael H Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 try bass pro they got every thing Quote
gatrboy53 Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 i mostly fish spinnerbaits around and in heavy cover. i never use lighter than 17 # and usually 20# because of abrasion. i never use floro becaue of the sink rate plus you don,t need a invisible line for that type of lure.i only use floro on finesse and leaders and baits that i need to watch the line with .i do use flor on crankbaits to get the bait deeper because of the sink rate and thin diameter. but thats me! also always wet your knot and try the trilene knot it woks well w/ flor. basser89 Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 Hey Gatrboy, I fish several lakes here in MD that are VERY clear. I have noticed an increase in my catches since I have switched to Vanish on these lakes. Most of the cover in the lakes I fish is grass and from what I have experienced, the 14# test works very well for me. Another reason I don't use heavier is the casting distance. I can make longer casts with the 14# and since the fluro is low stretch, I still get good hook sets on the end of a long cast! I always wet my line when ever I tie a knot (I perfer the palomar) no matter what type of line I am using. To clarify, the knots were not letting go! I checked the line after each break off I had to make sure that wasn't part of the problem. Like I said before, Berkley Transition fluro is JUNK! I'm just glad that stuff has been stripped off my reel and Berkley Vanish is back on to stay! ;D Quote
Phishn_Phool Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Bass pro may have everything but the best. I have been trying to get some Yozuri Hybrid from them for a month or more. I finally got it at Cabelas and I just started using this and I find it hard to believe there is anything better. Right RW? CPR ;D Quote
Nick Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Vanish line did the same thing to me. Worked great for two days then it began to break about the same as dry, thin spaghetti. The "improved" Vanish is good and has been out for a couple of years. BPS flouro is pretty good. I really like Silver Thread fluro, but it is hard to find. Seaguar and P-line flouro is good quality stuff too. About your spinnerbaits: you can get the translucent material of your dreams and tie any custom color you want from lots of places. Jenns Netcraft has a big array of silicone skirts. Check them out on the web. Quote
basser89 Posted September 20, 2005 Author Posted September 20, 2005 Nick, Thanks! I completely forgot about netcraft! There's another site that has decent prices that I JUST remembered. Its Stamina. Can't remember the exact address. Once I remember, I'll be sure to post it. Thanks again! Quote
basser89 Posted September 20, 2005 Author Posted September 20, 2005 Sorry for the delay! LOL! Its staminainc.com. I haven't been on the site for a while, but the last time I was on there, I saw some really good prices! Hope this can help save you all some $$$! Quote
Rebbasser Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 I have to quit going to Staminac. I started making my own spinnerbaits from the components from there and the bait monkey is beating the crap out of me ;D! Quote
basser89 Posted September 20, 2005 Author Posted September 20, 2005 Thanks for the warning Reb! I've been pondering doing that myself. The baitmonkey just hasn't yelled loud enough in my ear yet to start doing that! LOL! Quote
basser89 Posted September 24, 2005 Author Posted September 24, 2005 Hey Raul, Just want to thank you again for the advice on the Bass Pro Shops Lazer Eye spinnerbaits! I went to the lake I get to fish at lunch from time to time today. The wind picked up so I put down my flippin stick and went with my spinnerbait rod. I had tied on one of my new spinnerbaits and within the first 5 casts, BAM I had one on! Turned out to be a 3 1/2 pounder! One thing I hadn't noticed when I got the bait was this bluish irradescent (?spelling?) it gave off! I"m really impressed with the bait! Thanks!!!! Unfortunately, I left my camera phone in the truck so I don't have a pick to share Quote
booty0 Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 You have to re-spool flouro more often than mono. After a few dozen backlashes, even minor ones, the flouro gets small kinks and weakens significantly. If you snap off on the cast, re-spool immediately. It took a couple of heartbreaks before I learned this lesson. Overall, I really like the Vanish for use with soft plastics. It has definitely helped my catch rate. It's amusing to watch my frustrated, mono using partners struggle while I'm catching fish. I always suggest that the difference might be the flouro, but they have yet to convert. Quote
basser89 Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 Hey Booty0, I've been using flurocarbon on my spinnerbait rod for a hand full of years now. I've been using Vanish and have not had the problem that I experienced with the Transition. And I have actually gone back to the Vanish and have not had the problem since! And I can agree with the use of fluro when throwing plastics. Two weeks ago, I landed my PB (5lb 9oz) on a Zoom Brush Hog! Quote
