huskertko Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I usually fish a small lake, 20ish acres. One end has a dam and the other end is flooded timber, almost the entire lake is ringed by cattails growing on the edge of the lake except for the dam. Last night I was fishing off the dam area in the corner of the lake so I could cast parallel to the cattails, keep in mind a lake this small the corners are a pretty small area. So I am fishing a crankbait along the edges and I hear two guys in a boat. They are trolling down the sides of the lake casting towards the shore, and I figure they will just bypass the corner I am fishing in, but when i turned around to grab a different rod and reel, they just pull their boat into the corner and start fishing in the spot i was casting. Not keeping the boat out in deeper water and casting into the are I was fishing but they pulled the boat right on in so that I couldn't fish that area anymore. Well I had been there for about an hour and not caught anything so I decided that i would move to another corner. Well, you guessed it they did the same thing to me in that corner, i was even casting my crankbait withing a couple feet of the boat , but they obviously couldn't take a hint. By that time it was pretty dark so rather than starting an arguement or fight I decided to call it a night. Long story short, a new piece of "equipment" going in my tacklebox is a valve stem remover, and the next time these d*cks ppull that, they will come back to the boat dock to find four flat tires on their truck, not slashed jsut the air let out. fishinfool Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I definetly would have said something to them. Thats very disrespectful, even in a lake that small, theres plenty of room to share, don't let them do that to you again. Quote
Hillbilly_Hooker Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I think I would have had to say something to them as well. When I've had that happen to me in the past, I've usually said something like... "guys, you're in a boat and can fish the entire lake while I'm land locked and only have so many choices... would you mind?" I've yet to have anyone not move on then. Quote
FutureClassicChamp Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 well when im out by myself or with a friend or something i will usually take a musky rod or two along with me. this has happened to me before, someone invading my area. when this happens i will take out my 10" 6.8 oz top water with 5/0 trebles and start whipping it at em! needless to say, they get the heck outta there real quick. this technique usually gets em to leave within a minute lol! huskertko Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 There are a couple of reasons why I didn't say anything. First, I didn't take my blood pressure medicine and secondly, they were a couple of younger guys, dressed in baggy shorts, hats turned sideways, may by sterotypical, but they looked as though they would have been more than willing to take it to another level if provoked rather than talking about it rationally, and it was not worth the hassle. Quote
bowjunkie35 Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 > > "Oops, sorry about that", as the crankbait slaps off of one of their heads, or better yet, sticks! ;D A flat bladed screwdriver will remove tire pressure just as easy! Quote
huskertko Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 Yeah, so will a filet knife, but i really don't want to damage their vehicle, just a little revenge. Who knows they may just be a little slowand not know they were doing something that inconsiderate. Quote
DePoy79 Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 you should have just went crazy on them Quote
Flatfish Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Revenge is sweet when you have time to plan it, remember "Patience GrassHopper" You did the right thing, now if they pull that again!!!!! Quote
nwgabassmaster Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 The first time, I would have done what you did. The next time, I do believe that I would start "catfishing" with a 3-4 oz. weight. And, when I make the first cast, and it almost hits one of them, just look at them and say "There are catfish right beside you, and I will catch them no matter what." Then, if they don't move, repeat the action of casting to them, gradually getting closer to hitting them. If they don't get the hint, then having a 4 ounce piece of lead hitting them in the head should give them a great hint. I did this to a jet-skier on my home lake, and he was like "WTH, what was that for". I looked at him with the calmest voice, and said, "I thought that I saw an ***, err, bass around your jet ski." ;D Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted September 22, 2005 Super User Posted September 22, 2005 huskertko, I am assuming this is Kill Creek? Did they happen to be in a green two man bass boat or a converted jon boat? I have had a couple problems out there this year as well. And let me tell you, they just don't do it to shore fisherman. They do it to me in my boat as well. One time someone even crossed my line and got all tangled up. I am normally a pretty mild mannered guy and it takes a lot to get me stirred up, but this time I let them have it and explained to them fishing etiquette. Saw them out there a few more times over the summer and they kept there distance and behaved themselves . If it was a couple of younger kids in a green two man bass boat, I am just going to have to go back out there and teach them there lesson. Quote
huskertko Posted September 22, 2005 Author Posted September 22, 2005 KU, yeah it was kill creek, but it was two guys in a blue fishing boat. Looked to be an older model boat, almost looked like a converted ski boat. I have seen the other your talking about, the ones in the green bass boat have been pretty civil, must have seen them after you got ahold of them. I have seen several in converted jon boats but these guys were the first ones that have ever done that. I have actually had guys ask me if i minded if the stayed off shore but casted to the area i was in. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Personally, I think you did the right thing. These days, it's not worth it. If they are the same guys that KU has a problem with than I bet they already have an appointment for whats coming to them. You can't tick off that many people and not have someone confront you. But in the future, valve grinding compound, you don't need the whole tube but at least 1/2 in the gas tank and the cylinder walls will be too scored to hold compression within a month. Traceless, no varnish in the fuel system like sugar. stores easily in car or tackle box. Great for new cars! slow cure for a bad attitude. But again,(cough) I don't condone this. (cough) Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 22, 2005 Super User Posted September 22, 2005 You handled it correctly. You just don't know if idiots like that are packin or not. They may have been doing that on purpose , trying to pick a fight or are just so d**n stupid that they just didn't know any better. There are more important issue's you will have that you will have to stand your ground on. This wasn't one of them. Quote
kevthebassman Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 fish with braided line and cast the bait you won with the most treble hooks adn cast right across their line, and retrieve normally. either they get the hint or you will be the proud owner of a (slightly used) lure, courtesy of them. Quote
topwtr81 Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 you guys are killin me ;D I think you did right, set an example of how to act and maby these dink's will get the hint. anyway my favorite dink lure is a saltwater chug bug 4/0 trebles and you can throw it a mile if you throw it on light line you can bury it in them then snap off so you're out of harms way before they know what hit em 8) p.s. it works great on jet ski's too Quote
Minuteman Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 If they are out there fishing regularly and enjoy fishing someday in the future they will run into somebody worse than them. They'll think what a jerk the guy is and in the back of their mind will see themselves and maybe change their ways. Quote
jack1 Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 Some guy said some crap to me one time when I was fishing about 7 ft away from him. I wanted to pound him to the ground, but it wasn't worth it. Thanks to him, I moved right into a hot spot where I was pulling huge crappies. I purposely made alot of splashing and noise to catch his attention. Within a few minutes...he packed up and left! ;D Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 I would have wanted to go off on them, but you did the right thing,I think. The world is full of imbeciles and a$$es.Better to back off than land in jail or on a cold slab over a fishing spot. Quote
kevthebassman Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 i just had a thought, 2 words flare gun ;D Quote
abelfisher Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 I agree with those who have said you did the right thing. It is not worth getting killed over, literally. the problem with the other ideas is that if you put stuff in their gas tank or other things like that, they would not learn ie., tie the incidents together. You have to find some way for them to learn the lesson from their actions. (Maybe draw a picture of their boat next to you, with a key, on the driver side door ) That would definitely tie the incidents together for them. You could draw the main guy and give him a name of "Dick" with an arrow pointing to him. Call it Revenge art... Just hope they don't see you again or know your vehicle. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 Well snice iam only 20 years old i know how to get back at people. Take a little rock small enough to fit between neddle in the valve and the inside wall of the valve wall. If you do it right it should deflate very slowley. so have fun. And the next time they want to go some were they have to figuire out whats wrong. Plus i would only do it to one tire so they think there tire is blown. So then they go and buy a brand new tire. I dont think them kids would be smart enough to check the valves. Quote
Pond-Pro Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 I also know a way to get back at them. Ignore them. It is probably the hardest thing to do, but it is the best thing to do. I would continue fishing there and comletely ignore them. Retalyaiting would just make the situation worse. If they continue to bother you consider finding a different lake, or pond. Good luck with these disrespectful people. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Guys, I'm surprised Glenn hasn't shut this thread down. I'm sure we're all kidding about these miscellaneous revenge techniques. Maybe he thinks so, too. While we're just kidding about these I have two more words: Wrist rocket (Oh, did I really say that!) JK You did the right thing. I think if it happened again, I'd have to say something to them very politely like, "Have you considered what your doing. . . , etc." If they got testy about that, just walk away. It's not worth it. I fish a semi-private place (supposed to be private, but there's alot of keys out there, if you know what I mean) about that same size. There's a little gravel launch there. While my wife and I were fishing last spring, these guys come pulling in with a full size bass boat. They back their trailer in and leave it parked in the water. I felt like saying something about it, but I let it go. I just drove my truck around and loaded up on the other side of the lake. We caught way more fish than they did anyway. Quote
Hookhead Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 You did the right thing. As a fellow pond fisherman myself I can feel your pain. Last month I was fishing a small pond at the end of a very long hike (only way to get there) and after a few casts at my favorite secluded spot I hear a huge spash on the other side of an brushy point. The next thing I see are 2 goats and a woman swimming in the pond. The cool thing was that she had no idea I was there. I quickly grabbed a 1oz Rat-L-Trap and chucked it as far as I could in a safe direction and varied my retrieve. Sure enough the lady started freaking out. She thought there were rattle snakes somewhere in the water (I heard her shout to another person not in the water). Even though she wasn't completely underwater she could hear the loud rattling from the lure. She quickly gathered her goats and her friend and left. ;D Do what you can NOT to get revenge on these idiots. It really isn't worth it. Try talking to them first. If that doesn't succeed, get some pet goats and go swimming. Quote
