SoFl-native Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Confidence supercedes color. Sexy shad could be any color.......you guys that have confidence in it would still catch fish with it. Its you guys......not the color. Give yourselves some credit. Quote
Stringjam Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 It's kind of a weird phenomenon. On the other hand - - David Fritts blows away everybody on Clarks Hill in the Oct. FLW fishing crankbaits, and nobody even blinks. He beat 2nd place by 10 lbs.!! David is a cranking master of the highest order, but the only thing people care about is what magical color KVD used to win a couple of tournaments with. ;D Oh - what color was David using? Bone/Brown back. Exciting isn't it!!!! He doesn't win tournaments with colors, though........he used something that's a lot harder to get, and isn't available in a kit from BPS. It's called "Mad Skills," and it comes with every 10,000 or so casts you make with a crankbait. ;D Quote

jack1 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 There's no doubt that the hottest angler at the moment is KVD. It's all about marketing and getting people to by products. Now I'm not saying that this color doesn't work either. Like many of you have already pointed out, it's got it's place and time. Anglers who have little knowledge about fishing will be the first to get hooked on these types of product craze each year. For instance, my youngest brother who does fish quite often but knows very little about it, always bite into these types of product craze simply because he thinks it will automatically sky rocket his catch ratio simply because the ad said so. Color at times may be a factor in an angler's success, but more importantly it is the ability to apply your fishing knowledge in the conditions you're faced with. What good is a Sexy Shad color lure when you don't know when and where to use it? KVD can probably out fish anglers who doesn't understand the sport from a canoe with a Barbie rod and reel simply because his greatest weapon is his brain. Quote
basser89 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I didn't get into the Sexy Shad craze until late last year. I had picked up the Red Eye Shad and the series 6 crank. The only thing I had caught on the Red Eye was 2 snapping turtles and wasn't able to put the series 6 to good use (the lake I fished later in the year is stained at best). I have added the chart sexy shad to my arsenal now so I do believe they will work. If you caught 2 snapping turtles, maybe you need to fish it a little faster. I've seen turtles move and there is no way they're catching my Red Eye when I'm reeling it. I really like the Red Eye Shad. In my opinion, the Sexy Shad color is not the main reason why this bait has been successful for me. The action of the baits is responsible for the strikes. If you changed the color to any of the popular brand shad colors it would still be successful. I'm not sure I could reel it any faster than I was! I throwing it on a burner over top a shallow grass bed. At that time, I had been getting reaction strikes on RatLTraps doing the same thing. Slow speed definitely was not a factor, just the wrong place at the wrong time I'd say! Quote

I've seen turtles move and there is no way they're catching my Red Eye when I'm reeling it. If you've seen snapping turtle feed, you would understand why people snag them. They sit in cover, typically wood or weed edges, with their head stuck way out, mouth open, dangling a bit of flesh that is part of their tongue hoping for a fish to swim by to take the bait. They set up in the same structure as bass for the same reason: food. As soon as something swims nearby, SNAP! - dinner. If you are ripping a trap, and deflecting off wood, its not far fetched. I've seen quite a few picture posts with snappers on the end of bass baits. Quote
drop-shot fool Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 The only thing ive caught are stumps. With any new color it will work well for a while, but when everybody on the lake has one, im sure the bass are use to seeing it. Quote
