Normally the Dam will hold fish all year long. Popular baits include jighead worm, senkos, and then some crankbaits. My favorite is the jighead and worm.

when fishing the dam make sure you cast upstream and try to find breaks in the current they usally hold the fish

My dam consists of a rip rap wall about 300 yards long.  Jigs are the reigning winner up that way for me.  I have friends that crank it often also but the jig seems to outproduce them consistently.

I read that one of the best places to fish a new lake is the dam. Usually the water is deep (or at least with quick access to deeper water) and there's usually rip-rap or other structure.

My favorite pond has more bass in other areas, but the dam has more bass consistently feeding.

The times of the year that I have had the most success on dams are.

During a winter warming trend. The fish are in the deep water in the winter and if the shallow water warms up just a little they will move into it to feed untill it cools off again. Fish around rocks first. They will warm up faster in full sun.

During the spawn. The largest fish in a small lake will tend to spawn around the deepest water. So the dam is the first place I look.

During the shad spawn. Shad will spawn along the Rip-Rap on a dam. This is a bass magnet.

During the summer when the crawfish are moulting. You will know this is happening when you catch a bass and their nose and somtime their tails are bloody.
