Okeechobee_Cracker Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 The lake I fish i've always fished creeks and the side of the lake. When should I fish the Dam and how would I fish it..I hear its deper than the rest of the lake. ;D Quote
Curado Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 One of my most succesful ways of fishing a dam is a trick worm on a jighead; or a jig and deep crankbait. Quote
Will Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 Normally the Dam will hold fish all year long. Popular baits include jighead worm, senkos, and then some crankbaits. My favorite is the jighead and worm. Quote
Michael H Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 when fishing the dam make sure you cast upstream and try to find breaks in the current they usally hold the fish try swimming a twister tail jig thats how i get my results in the current Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 My dam consists of a rip rap wall about 300 yards long. Jigs are the reigning winner up that way for me. I have friends that crank it often also but the jig seems to outproduce them consistently. Quote
bassaddict62 Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I read that one of the best places to fish a new lake is the dam. Usually the water is deep (or at least with quick access to deeper water) and there's usually rip-rap or other structure. My favorite pond has more bass in other areas, but the dam has more bass consistently feeding. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted September 19, 2005 Super User Posted September 19, 2005 The times of the year that I have had the most success on dams are. During a winter warming trend. The fish are in the deep water in the winter and if the shallow water warms up just a little they will move into it to feed untill it cools off again. Fish around rocks first. They will warm up faster in full sun. During the spawn. The largest fish in a small lake will tend to spawn around the deepest water. So the dam is the first place I look. During the shad spawn. Shad will spawn along the Rip-Rap on a dam. This is a bass magnet. During the summer when the crawfish are moulting. You will know this is happening when you catch a bass and their nose and somtime their tails are bloody. Quote
