I'm on recent streak of Bass swallowing the hook??

I have been using 5" Senko's with a 4/0 to 5/0 hook sometimes. It happened to me twice Sunday. Anyone have any suggestions why this might be happening? I've been thinking maybe I let them take the hook a little to long.

well, either they are swalling them lures whole or you're lettin 'em hold it to long.  could be something else.

how long do you let them have it before you set the hook?

Get yourself some of the circle hooks and wacky rig 'em.

watch the line a little closer, maybe reel in a bit more slack.  Those hooks should be plenty big to lip nice size bass, if you set the hook reasonably quickly.

I know what you mean by "streak".  I have only gut hooked three bass this year and they were all on the same day on back to back to back catches.  I went the whole spring and biggest part of the summer without having one, then BAM, three in a row.  The through the gill hook removal worked on all, but one of them :'(.  Makes me wonder if it's something the bass actually does.

I fished a tournament this last week end and the wind was about 30-35 mph, with gusts to 40-45  .  Only managed to catch one 12.5"er but he had completely swallowed the 4/0 hook.  If you are having trouble feeling the bite, you will get more gut hooks. :'(

Wish I had your problem! Lately I've had them tossing lures back in my lap!

Can't say I've had that problem with that size hook. I've been experimenting with wacky rigging and I've had that problem with 1/0 Gamakatsu finesse wide gap hooks. Took me a few fish before I got a feel for when I should set the hook.
