Wondering if anyone else has done this-you see a specific piece of cover or whatever, and say to yourself or your buddy, "There is a fish on that ____ and I'm going to catch it" and then do it? I've done it twice-both with a spinnerbait. Once was a rock in a gravel pit and one was a lone clump of weeds in an pond that looked like chocolate milk. The one off the rock was only about a pound, but the one off the weed clump was about four pounds.

Yep I had a tournament that I fished one time that I didn't get a chance to go pre fish. A month before the tournament I called the spot where I was going to get my kicker fish. I ended up winning and big fish. As far as calling shots on cover I do that every cast. It keeps me on my toes ;)

Ive done that a few times. I'll see a stump thats like 1-2 feet down and tell my friend that I will catch one. He usually tells me I am full of it, until a bass jumps out with my jig on it. Its fun showing your buds how to fish.  ;D Now they pitch to it before me.

Only during spawning season, when it's obvious where the fish are since you're looking right at them.  Other than that, no. Sometimes I swear a bass will just have to be in a spot (it has all the requirements as per theory) and...nothing. I guess the fish don't read all the articles!  ;)

A couple of years ago there was a guy bank fishing near a hidden (underwater) stump that I knew of and had caught several nice bass. I asked him if he would mind if I cast close to where he was fishing and caught that three pound bass that was laying there. He said no problem, he didn't mind at all. First cast, I caught a bass just a little over three pounds. The guy on the bank politely responded, "Mr. what kind of fish finder are you running on your boat"???? By the way, that fish was in five feet of stained water so there was no way I could have seen it. That was the best one, but yes, there have been many times I've made a cast to a spot, and said "that'll pull one out of there", or say, "let me go in there and get that one laying right there" and pull a fish out.

yanno, I call shots quite often. because there are alot of places that look fishy. with lures too, "this lure will catch anything sittin there"... doesn't mean it works for me... lol

my biggest thing I'm tryin to overcome is distinguishing one spot from another. cutting out stuff that won't hold fish, but looks like it could. and goin places that actually hold fish.

with it bein the summer, and having no depth finder. its much harder to do, because I haven't found many fish on the shallows. except for a few dinks here and there. and goin deep is a major guessing game. (a new battery that holds a charge and the great art of trolling may help some to find good structure)

but back on topic...

I was tryin to tell this dude to toss his line in between some thick trees on the bank.  this was durin the spawn.  he never listened and I was catchin quite a few bass.  he was castin somewhere and I told him to watch this...  cast between some more small trees, and got lucky (rauls favorite word)  ;) catchin a 4lber.

he still never listened!  stubborn folk.    ::)

When I see that fishy looking spot, my saying is "Time for a Money Cast"  I just know she's at home.  Then after I make the money cast, if I'm lucky, my next words are "MONEY".  You can see those kinda spots all day long.  But you gotta be able to put your bait on the money the first cast as not to spook the fish.  Competive fishing is about "that Money".  Yes I've called my shots many a times and scored, and also had plenty of three and outs and punted.   My partners know if I say I got some change they know I have one on that is below the legal limit, a keeper is money alll day long.

Well, the Saturday before Thanksgiving, 2003 I was fishing with my main man, Speedy Madewell. He's running the trolling motor in the front of the boat, but we drift the Tennessee River with the bow facing upriver so I have first shot at new water. Anyhow, we're drifting a submerged ridge with huge boulders dispersed intermittantly along the break. My buddy tells me to cast about ten feet in front of a very large point, but it's underwater and I target a different rock. He says, "That's not where the big girl lives" and casts to the spot himself. About twenty minutes later I had the privilege of netting his 10 lb smallmouth! As far as we know, this is the biggest bass ever caught on the Tennessee River.

That smallie is huge, I do it to my friends when i know certian docks hold fish and i tell them i will catch a fish off this dock and i do, they think i am crazy for fishing so much i can point out which docks in my home lake which produce  fish and ones that dont.

Yeah, I have done it a few times. The most notable instance of this happening was when I was fishing with my bud, Brian, at the Rocky Mountain PFA.

All three of the lakes have huge stump fields, with stumps ranging from underwater to several feet above the surface.

As usual, he was chucking his Pop-R, and catching bass every once in a while. There was a specific stump, that was on the outside edge of the stumpfield.

I was using a Strike King Pro Model jig, with a Zoom Chunk Trailer. He did not think that any bass would hit that jig, because they were hitting on top-waters.

I pitched my jig to that stump, and told him that I was going to go "KVD" on his arse. He kinda chuckled, until he saw me set the hook hard on a good fish. I asked for the net, and he ignored me. He had good reason, cause I ticked him off when I lipped the fish..............she was 4 lbs.

;D ;D ;D

I guided on the same stretch of river for 25 years so I have done that with customers and friends for years.  Even had some fish named. I would say things like "right by that log is where ol' fatty lives, try dragging over it" and it has brought some nice tips over the years  :D

Absolutely. And my buddy was there for the best one.

We were fishing a smal natural lake in Bradenton FL and the water was pretty clear so I could see a big drop off out about 50 feet from shore.

I said "there's a big bass right there at the drop off" even though I didn't see one.

I cast my bait (I think it was a fluke tail) and BAM!, a BIG bass gulped it down as soon as it hit the water.

8 lbs.  ;D

My fishing buddy and I bought our first boat and on her maiden voyage we fished a really muddy lake.  After 6 hours of fishing the sun was dipping into the lake and we decided to call it a day (the lake closes at sundown).  On the way back to the ramp I saw a round rock about 3 feet in diameter just off a point and I say to my buddy, "Pull over there real quick, I need to pick up this bass before we go home".  He looks at me like I'm crazy but takes me to the rock anyway.  With the motor still idling I cast a blue and black buzz bait toward the rock.  The buzz bait slams onto the rock, bounces off and lands in water.  As soon as it hit the water a nice 2 pounder hit it.  This was before I had a chance to work it to the surface!  My buddy's eyeballs popped out and we laughted our ***** off back to the ramp.    ;D

In 1987 I was fishing a two acre pound with two boys, Tony Mulvaney and Jimmy Short. I was fishing a Carolina-rigged Augertail and wasn't getting any hits. I walked further in the direction of the two boys who were not having much luck either.

I picked up a baitcaster with an all black spinnerbait tied off. "All right boys, this cast to that stick-up is going to break the ice." Wham!  A four and a half pounder bit... Got him in and Jimmy says,"Bet you can't do that again." Tossed right back at the stick-up, wham. It looked like the first bass' twin.

Tony now says, "bet you can't do it again." I looked at Tony and told him I knew my limit and told him to cast at the same spot. As destiny would have it, another fish, I say fish because we never really saw it, takes his Mepps #3 squirrel tail to deep water right now. He was hooked for five minutes, seemed like twenty when he broke off.

The boys spent the rest of the day trying to catch Mr.Big. 8)

It would do my soul well to know that Jimmys' in heaven... :'(

I'm often able to do this when I'm fishing around pontoon boats. I'll just look at it and say that's the one. Usually I have a good idea but for some reasons I keep fishing the ones that I say theres no way. Each time I was right there wasn't a fish there.

Some times when I fish by laydowns I'm able to do it too.

How about the times when you look at a spot that you would read about it's so perfect but there is nothing there?
