CBedo Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Overall, I thought it was a pretty well made dvd. I don't think there was any earth shattering new info for the experienced fisherman, but he did a very good job of giving some structure and simplicity to the process of attacking new water. My biggest two recommendations to them for making it better would be: 1) He talks about a checklist for the boat that is supposed to be on the website. It's not on the website that I can find. You need to deliver on something you promise. That shouldn't be that hard. 2) With regards to the video, he goes through using transmission lures to learn a site, but doesn't really give you much info on what to do with it. He just jumps forward to showing him flip some mats and catch a good one which supposedly he got there from his previous work he taught us, but there is no real transition to help us. What did you guys think? Quote
the_fishin_dude Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Just got Ike's Rules yesterday! I'd have to agree with everything you said. There really wasn't anything I've never read about, but I'm a more visual learner so I think the video helped me tie some things together a little bit better (yes, I'm pretty new to bass fishing). The only thing I would say to anyone considering buying it is, "It's not a HOW TO FISH video." It's more of a how to FIND fish video. But I enjoyed it and think I'll use it as a reference in the future. I'm curious to see what other "rules" Ike comes out with. Jeff Quote

reddman Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Thanks for the reviews..I was wondering about getting the DVD's, I think I will pass for now.. Quote
p-funk Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I also got it a few weeks back and I'm a big Ike fan. I honestly would not tell anyone to buy this video. I feel I wasted $30 bucks after I watched it. You could purchase a couple BPS videos which go into a lot more depth on certain subjects. I feel like the Ike video was just a breeze through a few topics. I would have liked to see him go a bit more in depth on maps for example. Why he chose what points to highlight on his maps. I was also dissapointed once he got on the water. He makes a big deal of finding this spot to fish and then he catches one fish off that spot and then the next clip he's fishing a totally different area with no feedback on why he went to this spot or why he decided to move to the weeds later on. If you're thinking of buying it, borrow it from someone first or buy it off ebay if you can find it. If not invest your money into some Bass Pro Videos, cheaper price and better info. Just my .02 Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 8, 2005 Super User Posted September 8, 2005 Reddman videos you NEED to have: Bigmouth and Bigmouth Forever, they are really old ( Homer Circle was YOUNG in them ! ) but the information in them about behavior and the life circle of bass is applicable today, they are a must. Back in the old days "Spinnerbaits A-Z" with Bill Dance is very good, the same rating I give to the one about worm fishing. They are really "HOW TO" videos. Quote
master_baiter Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 i bought the rapala movie from BPS and love it it shows u alot and teaches u how to work them and what not. Quote

CBedo Posted September 8, 2005 Author Posted September 8, 2005 I still would recommend this video to someone who is relatively new. It is pretty straightforward about how at least to pick a spot to start your angling attack. I agree with Raul on Bigmouth & Bigmouth Forever. Also, in Glen Lau's collection, you gotta see Feeding Habits of Bass. The video itself is ok, but the end is classic. It is Rick Clunn fishing with Al Lindner way back in the day! You get to see Rick using a spinning rod and catching potentially his first ten pound bass ever. And then you get to see him drop it, try to grab it, and fall halfway into the lake before Al helps him. Good stuff. I also have most (I think all) of the Bass Pro videos. Some are better than others, but most are pretty good instructional videos. Woo's Clues was a pretty good one for a bunch of little tips you might not normally see. The Larry Nixon ones on Spring, Summer, and Fall patterns are pretty good in terms of establishing patterns as well. Quote

CBedo Posted September 8, 2005 Author Posted September 8, 2005 Reddman, All of the older Glen Lau videos can be found at www.questforadventure.com I think. Quote
nwgabassmaster Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 The one video that I have loved watching over and over was the BPS video from KVD about flipping and pitching. I watched it several times over and over, learned the information contained in the video, and used it on my already strong jig foundation. The tips that I gathered from it, I feel, helped me hook into my largest bass ever. However, all the tips in the world will not help you when your jaw hits the ground, and your thumb acts like a winch on the spool, when the bass is trying to take drag! :-X :-X :'( :'( ;D This bass looked like Shamoo when she jumped, and a fellow that was walking along where I was fishing said that when she jumped, she looked well over 12 lbs. It's a great video to watch. I give it a 8/10 on my MUST SEE video ranking system. Quote
