Boo Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Whats your most productive lure or technique for fishing thick weeds? Quote
Shad_Master Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 I use either a GULP! Nightcrawler or Baby Ring-Fry rigged weigtless (if the wind permits) and hop it on top or through the weeds. If the wind will not allow for weightless, I try to use the least amount of weight possible, perhaps a 1/16 Slider hook. Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Weightless plastic bait or a scumforg type bait dragged through and over the weeds. Brad Quote
7Lbass Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Depends on the type of weeds and what the fish want....If they won't look up to hit a frog or surface type bait then I put a heavy Jig inside and yo yo it.... Quote
playmaker47 Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 weightless Zoom Trick Worm, or weightless Zoom Fluke Quote
JaxBasser Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Depends on what kind of grass it is. If the grass is under water i would work a Fluke or something similar over the top of it. If its thick surfass grass i would drop a Jig n Pig or T-Rigged worm in it. Quote
ECP1989 Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 If the Weeds your talking about are underwater I'd try a Rattle Trap type bait and rip it outta the weeds when it gets sanagged. If the Weeds are on top I'd be throwing a Frog and Flipping a Texas Rig in the holes. Quote
Nick.Culver Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Narrow it down for everone Boo. Are you talking about shallow subsurface vegatation or floating weeds. Their is so man differnt ways to fish weeks. From shallow cranks to deep diving cranks. Heavy jigs to weightless stickworms. Quote
Boo Posted August 10, 2005 Author Posted August 10, 2005 I guess both surface and subsurface weeds, I dont know names. Ive been fishing a lake that has both. The bottom weeds looks like moss, the top is stringy and open and not as thick. The shoreline was mainly reeds. ;D Quote
senko_77 Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 hey low budget, im stealin your answer. i would say a zoom horny toad or a yum sizmic toad. t-rigged wieghtless. good luck Quote
DDbasser Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I like a weightless fluke or senko, or baby brushhog with an 1/8 oz weight. This weekend I'm going to try the new boohya swimming jig in the weeds. Quote
BassMaster_1 Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Scumfrog for surface veggies, t-rigged or something weedless for submerged veggies Quote
Michael H Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 sucmfrog for surface rattlin rapala for submerged weeds Quote
Guest avid Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 horney toad is hard to beat in this situation. during the day use natural colors. when the light is low use black or black/blue. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Soft plastics fished weightless.I don't know if the Horny Toad is the best, but it's pretty darn good.I went Sat. morning and they wouldn't hit anything I tried.I rigged a white Horny Toad and buzzed it around and across grass mats.I'd let it slowly sink when it went in a pocket.I ended up catching 3 slot fish(18-22) and a couple of smaller bass. Quote
Curado Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 I would try a scum frog, horny toad, both weighted and weight less worms and I've also done good in grass with a weight less tube but you got to use a heavy hook and I usually put a rattle in also, to help it sink. Quote
bassaddict62 Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Johnson Silver Minnow. They aren't as popular as they used to be, but they work great. Dress them with a twister-tail or shad plastic or pork rind. Quote
metalhack Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I think this question along with every other similar question will, and should vary depending on location and what the bass are eating. One pond I fish I use either Buzz Frogs or a Panther Martin Frog. I love letting it sit on a pad for about 45-60 seconds with part of the bait hanging off the pad. The next movement of the bait will usually trigger a strike. Another pond I fish...actually its a lake, the frog baits dont work as well. There I go with a Tiki Stick or Zoom 7" Trick Worm. For these setups I use 65 lb test braided line on a med-heavy action rod. You need the muscle to get the hogs out of the weeds. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 6, 2005 Super User Posted September 6, 2005 Weightless Senko. Quote
bipr8 Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 senko for nasty grass that hangs on to your lure kinda weeds. Whacky senko for healthy weeds that stay together. Quote
