Has anybodybeen to a bassmaster university seminar before. I just signed up for one in october in upstate ny and wondered if any of you had any feedback.

I've read (I think) that Bass U. has different levels of the seminars (i.e. beginner, intermediate, advanced, etc.).  When I look at the schedule for upcoming seminars, however, the description always reads... 'for advanced anglers.'  Any ideas or does anyone know if they truly do have something for beginners?

Thanks

Yeah man, they have different levels nowadays.I attended one about 6-7 years ago when it was all grouped in one class. While I was there I enjoyed most of it but alot of what they taught was common sense stuff.I was disappointed when they barely covered electronics and deep water structure fishing. All that was just skimmed over, you could say.I did learn a few things though and I'd go to another one as long as I could get what was left off the first time.

if you log onto bass insiders web site and click on bassmaster university and see for yourself. The beginner and expert seminars arent as widespread throughout the country as the intermediates are. The one i am taking is the intermediate, we dont have any expert seminars near us.

Bassackwards,

Go the the BASS website 'www.bassmaster.com' and look to the right side of the welcome screen. There should be a link there to Bassmaster U. After you click on that link, be sure to scroll down all the way to see the description and schedule toward the bottom of the page.  As an afterthought, here's the direct link to the Bass U. page...

I went to one last March in Worcester, MA.  G. Swindle, D. Hite, S. Gribsby & J. Houston were some of the speakers.  It was informative, but like the others mentioned, alot of it was basic stuff and repetitive.  They all try to make it entertaining and joke around alot.  I guess I was glad I went.  It's a long two days though!

I went to one earlier this year at the Springfield MO, Bass Pro Shop.  I was pretty dissapointed.  There were some good information.  A couple of the instructors were good, but the rest would just talk, tell stories, and get way off the subject.  It seemed like most of them had no notes or outline to teach by.  Also about 1/4 of the subjects that were supose to be taught never got anything but a few passing comments.

I went to one in MD last February.  My instructors were Denny Brauer, Mike Iaconelli, Woo Daves, Shaw Grigsby, Mark Menendez, and one other.  They all has a chance to cover various topics which most of the time were their strong points (Brauer - Jigs, Daves - soft plastics, etc.).

Iaconelli was by far the most prepared and energetic of the bunch (go figure).  He covered the movement of bass as they relate to the different water temps, and how to go about detrmining where fish might be based on that info.  I still use my notes from that class to this day.  Some of his pointers are also in his book, which I thought was interesting.  On that note, a lot of his pointers in his book are also on his website.

The course was a nice chance to get out of the house during a winter weekend.  We also were given coupons for 15% off at the local BPS (came in handy).

The course wer informational but I don't think they really covered the topics as thoroughly as we would've liked.

If I had to I would go again, depending on the instructors available.

I've been to 4 or 5 and each time I go I either pick up something new or renew past knowledge. I would recommemd them. I am interested in the new format with the different skill levels. I will be attending the one in Dallas in Feb.

What do you all think of the intermediate one?  There will be one held about 10 min. from my house in Olathe KS.  Van Dam and Iconelli are on the list to be there.  Not sure who else...  I would say I know quite about about bass fishing and their movement, habits, etc.  I'm somewhat afraid that it would be a waste of money beacuse it may be all common knowledge stuff to me.  I'd choose a Master series but there's none on the list by me.

CGS2004,

I am glad you posted this about the one at JCCC, i missed seeing it when i looked at the list this morning, I was planning on going to the Basic class in Novemeber, but I may change that and go to the one in Feb with KVD and Ike.  I am pretty new at fishing but I feel like I have a preety decent handle on the basics, so I am hoping the Intermediate one is not too much over my head.

i also went to one about 4 yrs ago and was dissappointed..i think they should have less pro's and go more into depth...they also like to promote their products....but it was nice to actually meet some of them....i don't know if i would go again..maybe to one of the new advanced ones but the closest one is about a 5 hr drive.......
