My friend who is just beginning to fish bought a couple of these, in the small size. Believe the lure is 2 - 2 1/2inches in length. Only thing I am worried about is I know Storm is known to create some crappy baits, though they do create some good baits also.. Anyhow, anyone fish the thundersticks, have they worked out for you, or do they act "funny"? Just want to know if he purchased junk or not.

He got them 2 for 5$, so he thought it was a good deal. Hopefully they perform like theyre worth more then that  :).

I've had good success on Storms Thunderstick Jr.  however, i'm not a good jerkbait fisherman, so i don't throw them often but in the right circumstances (mostly in the fall with alot of wind and partly cloudy skys) they just flat out catch fish.

I've had great success with the thundersticks. My favorite being the deep thunderstick jr's.

In fact I'm sure my tournament partner is going to throw a dig in here, but for a long time when heading out to fish my dad, (who guides on the Columbia River), would ask to make sure we had our thundersticks. It's a standing joke with us now.

There are two generations of thundersticks. Pre Rapala and Post Rapala. The difference being that the pre rapala bill was part of the molded lure and the post is a glue on bill. They both work well but the pre rapala quality is much more consistent.

It sounds like your buddy got a good buy

Triton's right, the oldies are the goodies.  IMO there is no comparison.  The old model flat out smokes the post-Rapala sticks.

The Thunderstick Jr. is a real fish catcher. The bigger Thunderstick, not so much.

A lot of the Walleye guys around here swear by them but can't say too many Bass guys use them, myself included.

Yeah the old ones are sweet.

IIRC Dave's Kaboom got the old molds when Rap bought Storm, so those bills are still molded.  My local Gander had a number of the Kaboom's in their clearance bins too, so might be worth checking out.

Those are killer 'eye baits around these parts; they're staples around Green Bay and on Winnebago.
