Don't remember where I've heard this but want to know if there was any truth to this..

Is gary yamamoto the grandson of Gen. Yamamoto who planned/commanded the attack on pearl harbor?  Any relation there?

I believe that I heard the same thing, but I am not sure if that it's true.

Even if it was, Gary is a great guy.  In 2001, I met him at the ATL BPS.  Although I doubt that he remembers it, I talked to him for a good hour, about the lures and stuff, and he was very up front, very honest, and very nice.

That was several decades ago, and this is the 21st Century.   ;)

Yeah, don't misunderstand me, I'm not trying to belittle him or anything, he's a great fisherman and a great guy from what I hear.  But was just curious...

I believe he's orig. from hawaii.

Yeah Flyrod, admiral/general, what the hell.  Haven't looked at them history books in a while!  ;D

Yamamoto is the 8th most common Japanese surname, so the odds are pretty good that Gary isn't related. For comparison, the 8th most common American surname is Wilson.
